Evening all, I'm setting up this thread now with a view of running a separate through the night thread to focus on the Breeders Cup. Is it the absolute elite horses in the world clashing? Not quite. The best of USA vs Group1 European animals but not the top of our tree. Regardless, its usually fantastically entertaining and there is some value to be had in one or two of the races. I'll post my selections shortly but please feel free to continue with the standard UK Daily thread for Fridays racing purposes. 8:06- SWEET SHIRLEY MAI This selection is potentially very interesting because the outside draw may actually compliment its style of running. Wesley Ward trains and he is a sprint king in the US. This horse has actually shaped like he would get beyond 6f in his 3 starts so far but the great thing here is that they are going to go breakneck pace on the fast dirt and I can see a swooping wide move late on in a close finish. Hopefully we will be on the right end of a photo. 8:46 Breeders Cup Marathon: GRASSY I landed a 10/1 winner of this race two years ago and I am hoping I have found one with exactly the same sort of profile two years later. ELDAAFER was my winner in 2010 and he runs again today. However the selection GRASSY has shaped so frequently like he is in need of a trip that I am prepared to take a chance on him at rewarding odds. He was last seen finishing well but all too late in a Grade 2 event over 10f on turf and I wonder if the switch to dirt and the upping in trip will really play to his stamina strenghts. Best of luck to Fame and Glory though who is the absolute class horse of the race as seen when cantering all over his opponents before chucking in the towel in his races this season. A classy animal who deserved better than to be losing to stayers. One of AOB's best colts of recent times over 1m4f IMO. I think he will do well though to win first time on dirt when the going gets tough late on. Fast dirt does help though. 10:08 Juvenile fillies (Dirt) DREAMING OF JULIA 7/2 This is a beautiful filly who was a warm order on debut- hacking up by over 10 lengths and then doing so again on second start. That left her a 1/9 favourite in a Grade 1 (4 runners) last time and she cruised alongside a ferocious pace but struggled to shake off a very game 2nd. The 2nd was a debutant and could turn out very smart also (pair cleat by half the track) but Dreaming of Julia may be a much better horse with a better pace to aim at this time and not idling. 11.30 MY MISS AURELIA (NAP) 5/1 Lovely filly who made big impressions as a juvenile. Is still unbeaten but they weren't as impressed with her last time it seems when she only prevailed a head in a battle with QUESTING who reopposes. However, prior to their battle, Questing had won 3 on the bounce all in tremendous style and beat IN LINGERIE (who runs in the Filly and Mare Turf) by no fewer than 9 lengths! My Miss Aurelia won hands and heels that day in the battle and there is a bit more left under the bonnet. Should be spot on for what is her 3rd start of the season. Hope I don't curse it for you, but this is one of the 2 horses I'll be backing in this years BC (the other being St Nic's Abbey tommorrow). This race can be expected to go to a European, and a repeat of her Nassau run should be good enough to see Gosden's mare home and hosed. This appears to have been the target for some time, and 1m2f is her trip, having been just outstayed in the Yorkshire Oaks. Good luck to anyone that's on.
Sky Lantern in the Fillies Turf is my nap. Looked like a classy horse in the Moyglare, won going away, extra furlong should suit
My breeders cup knowledge is poor so Toppy I'll go with your four in a lucky 15! Tomorrow I will be having a big bet on excelebration as I believe he is the best miler we have seen in a long time (obviously excluding Frankel)
Has anywun picked up on tha price diffrenses between the USA and here? JAYCITO (Marathon) 5/1 in USA 20/1 Totesport WATSDACHANCES (Juv Fillies Turf) 4/1 in USA 7/1 Most bookies BEHOLDER (Juv Fillies) 5/2 in USA 7/1 Ladbrokes MARKETING MIX (Filly & Mare Turf) 9/2 in USA 9/1 Coral AWESOME FEATHER (ladies classsic) 3/1 in USA 9/2 Bet 365/ Paddy Power Sum good value ta be had
Agree that both The Fugue and Sky Lantern have great chances of winning and must both be placed at the very least, but no bets for me there as you can't trust the locals and their "assisted medication" techniques !
I love the 'Breeders Cup' and not just because it has the same initials as me. In fact my earliest racing memory was of Arazi storming around the outside of the field to rout his field in the 'Juvenile'. Still one of the most amazing things I have ever seen in racing - a truly wonderful performance. Just the one bet for me at the meeting this year and that is Mr Charlton's Dundonnell tomorrow. I've said it before and I'll say it again that I really, really like this horse and think he is one of Europe's top 2YO's and I still remain convinced he will, if remaining sound, have a major say in next terms 2,000 Guineas.
SBC...I remember Arazi too...an amazing 2 year old. We have witnessed another brilliant 2 year old this season and it wasn't Dundonell......Dawn Approach is the name and Dundonell will have a clear view of his rear end if he takes him on in next years 2000 Guineas !
I'm finding it hard to not back Fame and Glory in the marathon, sentimental reasons purley but i may just have a small win bet and hope he runs a good race. Goodluck with Grassy Toppy, be a nice price winner to get.
Fame And Glory has been to the well too many times now and is certainly no Yeats ! Though it would be great to see him win and hope he does it for you STH.
anyone know if this is being streamed live for free anywhere. i was told breederscup.com but couldnt confirm if they were. thanks in advance.
