http://georgeweahscousin.com/2012/11/02/be-careful-what-you-wish-for/?share=email&nb=1 Interesting article and basically points to what most of us have been saying. We should back Nigel to do the business! COYR!
Really good read and puts everything in perspective for me. And to think every other manager inhereted a premiership squad and Nigel is having to build one, it doesn't look so bad. I also agree with the statement of Hoddle being the best manager we have had in my time of supporting saints but Nigel is a close second as far as I'm concerned. I'm sure he will come good if given enough time to do so.
So basically if you make a crap start to a Premier League campaign then in the end you do well. All part of the Corsese Adkins master plan!!!
If we can not win a lot of games in the third tier of english football with the squad and budget we had then something is seriously wrong , judge the divisions , thats the fair way to do it .
More interesting than the result comparison was the sheer number of managers there were to make the comparison with! Stability is what we need, regardless of the outcome this year.
He needs more time to show what he can do at this level. Look at AVB last year. Takes any new manager time to adjust to the PL.
AVB ? The jury's still out on him , Spurs fans are not convinced and his choices at Chelsea did not help him .
He does need time that is for sure......The question on most peoples lips is "will he be given the time" He does need some decent points totals out of the next five games that's pretty well certain. He will get there though all he now needs is for the team to believe. Their confidence is probably as low as it can get I would have thought. So I think he has some real motivation to do.
Really? Got a few close friends who are Spurs fans and they and their families who also go are sure he is the right man. Very much suit his style there. They just need another CM most of them seem to be saying, as when Dembele is out the drop in class is big.
The article compares the results various Southampton managers got in their first 9 games in the Premier League. Nigel's results in the lower divisions don't get mentioned at all.
Well my mate goes and he says the jurys still out as it was only a month ago there were serious questions over his appointment . And what about Chelsea ?
My point is we are basing it on that , ignore last year and the year before , this season is the one that counts , then next season , we are putting him on a pedestal when it not needed at all .
He was sold short at Chelsea in my opinion. He sat there when announced as manager and said he had been told that he had been brought in to freshen up the club and rebuild the side. However when he did it there seemed to be some sort of player clique that had Abramovich's ear, and he wasn't given time. He bought Mata who has proved to be absolutely top drawer for the club. Lets not forget Di Matteo's start was pretty much the same as AVB's. It was only winning the UCL that made it look so astoundingly brilliant. And with the amount they've spent this summer on top of their previous spending you would totally expect to find them where they are. AVB is doing well at Spurs, with the club in 4th place. From what I've been told the vast majority are behind him. But then if your friend is anything like you he will be part of the miserable, moaning minority who will never be happy.
Perhaps that is affecting some people's judgment (some would argue his past record is important) but the point of the article is that Adkins has made a comparable start in the Premier League to other Southampton managers who kept us up. I suspect his opposition has been tougher than most as well. If the poor results and performances continue into early December then yes, it may be time for a change.
If possible could someone put the teams up that survived ? We could compare , ok not scientific as there are different teams in the league but it would be interesting .
If you want to know the make up of the teams that survived I'm sure you can read the article and find the information yourself.
