Looks like Brown is going to take over Harlepool United. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...l-Brown-set-charge-League-One-Hartlepool.html
I know he has got his haters but it's pretty tragic how his career has gone. Has any other manager ever fallen so far from grace so quickly?
Wouldn't be too confident, Daily Mail publish a lot of cack. Look at this story, almost a carbon copy with Coventry switched to Hartlepool. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2202002/Phil-Brown-set-Coventry-job.html
I remember John Gregory, he had quite a few similarities to Brown, no idea what he's doing now, hope he hasn't passed away or anything like that, wikipedia time I think.
Gregorys last job managing in Kazakhstan where he got fired for getting his team relegated. Hope Brownies career not following a similar career path wouldn't like to see him end up in Borat land
Ask any of the players who played under him what they think. He's universally loved and respected. And John Gregory's a straight up ****.
Hmmm, I'd disagree with that actually. I know a lot of players from that time and I actually would say the opposite. And this isnt me slating Brown, I'll always both love him and see what an embarrassment he became by believing the hype he gave himself!
If he gets it good luck to him, as said earlier he just needs to start building his reputation again. If he does get the job, I wonder if Coops might end up there? I wonder of BH will be with him or he might go for Ash as his assistant?
Indeed. That was my first thought. Jeff Stelling will love this appointment. Maybe he can wind Brownie up again. Lol.
You might be right about Gregory but there is no way Brownie was universally loved and respected by the players when he was with us, in fact his reputation for bad man-management stopped us getting players in and maybe was the reason we lost millions on Bullard. I like Brownie and his achievements were immense for us though both good and bad if you look at them objectively.
Fair point WoK, but I think you are all missing the point. The best managers - Ferguson, Wenger, Mancini, Moyes etc. - are not universally loved & respected. Probably the opposite. Brown's biggest achievement - and biggets mistake - was getting us promoted! It seems to be the worst career move a championship manager can make. Very few manage to stay with the club afterwards. Ask Warnock, Coyle, Mowbray, Hughton, McCarthy - to name but a few. Already there are calls for Adkins and Mcdermott to go from Southanpton and Reading. I hope that their management show a bit of bottle and keep faith with them - but past history would indicate otherwise.
