One little correction...you said most university students are womanisers. You appear to have overlooked students of the female persuasion.

    Sexism!

I don't know if society judges racists more harshly than misogynists or homophobes, I certainly have no sympathy for any of them and yes I think homophobia is as bad as racism, although some don't for religious or other reasons (which is certainly no excuse, quite the opposite, but might explain why some people don't seem bothered).

I'm also fond of the hoody, perfectly acceptable leisure wear. The middle class skate boarders in Tunbridge Wells are also fans, and nothing to be scared of!

Very interesting points. I completely agree.

In fact, studies of the brain lead to most experts unanimously agreeing that at any given time, our unconscious mind has a whole range of wanted and unwanted thoughts, and our conscious mind chooses whether or not to air them. Sort of like a political system, and the brain 'votes' which course of action to take. Not to mention that much of what we do on a day-to-day basis isn't controlled by us. It is a massive subject, and I could never even begin to sum it up (as I am nowhere near literate enough...)

But I would really recommend reading the book 'Incognito: The Secret Lives of the Brain' by David Eagleman. He is a neuroscientist, who wrote a book based on it aimed at average joe's. It is a ridiculously interesting read.

I'm a university student and I can add weight to your views by confirming that I am, indeed, hard-drinking, money-wasting and foolish.

Can't believe people have suggested a limit on the number of posts, we need Democracy, freedom of choice and freedom of speech, it's one of the best things the human race has ever invented.

Invented? Surely it should be that, as John Locke would say, all men are born equal?

Freedom wasn't invented. It was the first state of human conciousness.

Black people are great, they are good at music and at sports, I don't understand why racism was created, just seems stupid, they are pretty cool people just like the rest of us and they contribute a lot to the social and cultural aspects of our lives.

Democracy was invented and we are not born free. Cavemen were free, we're not, but it's a close to freedom as we'll get, unless we live on the North Pole.

Democracy was invented, sure, in the face of aristocracy and plutocracy that was in place. But freedom was not invented. It wasn't some sort of random idea. It is the human race. It was the environment in which we began as homo erectus and its the state most peoples find themselves in now after much meandering throughout the years.

    Couple of things:

    - Positive stereotypes are still stereotypes.
    - Racism wasn't "created".

"True" freedom of speech will never and should never be possible

It existed since long before our species. It's a primitive impulse that exists in many species, and we've mostly grown out of it.

The true form of Democracy was invented in America in 1776 in the declaration of independance that was inspired by the French revolution, the thing is, the current politians and speakers are way off from the founding fathers of the United States of America, honest Abe and George Washington are the true politians, if they were about now the world would be a different place.

We're turning into a more and more fascist, surveillance state now, cameras everywhere, rules that are being made by politicians that no one voted for (EU). Scary stuff, and people still seem to think that the EU is a paradise state, an amazing idea that us Europeans invented, no it's not. The Rich countries have become richer and the poorer countries have become poorer and it's only a matter of time before the EU splits up.

Remember what happened in the second world war when countries ditched Democracy, let's not go down that path again, Greece are getting there by giving neo-nazis more power in parliament.

Independance movements in the UK, Spain and Belgium as well, the world is changing and it looks like we're gonna have a few more new countries in the next 10 years.

It was created. How come some people are racist? It's because other people are and that started with slavery where they looked down on black people.

Well... so much to respond to.

    1. Fran. You are right. But as one of my points was that I am indeed a bigot (as I believe we all are in some way) then this stands to only aid, rather than diminish my point. I will forgive you your obvious anti-gay feelings - you did ignore the lesbian womanisers, after all! ;)

    2. Jake. These are my generalised feelings - or they would be a rational overview and not a prejudicial one. However, against my best judgement I quite like students - I just have no sympathy for their "woes".

    3. MLT. What you just said was actually very racist in its own way - but don't worry, I don't think you are a racist because of it. To generalise about people based on race is prejudice. In the 1980s, the dominance of "nice" black characters on TV was as firmly rejected by the black community as negative stereotypes before. No racial group wants to be any stereotype. They just want to be people. Some black people are musically illiterate. Some are not cool. Some are not even nice. They are like everyone else - different to each other and to us.

This is the problem with "racial" discussions. They are a bottomless pit of good intentions and misunderstandings.

Err no, that is not where it started. Ever seen two cats fighting over territory? That's where it started.
