Brady and tunnicliffe on bench for united, saville on the bench for Chelsea, got to be a scare tactic to worry man u's kids.
Well King isn't even in their squad tonight so I assume he must be available if teams want him (unless he's injured). So I very much doubt we're interested. Powell, Tunicliffe and Brady are on the bench.
He wasn't any good Chazz. But he looked a classic rough diamond to me. He's going to be an Heskey at least. I'd want him back here, but only on the provisio of a perm,at the end.
We had an acceptable level of cover at the end of the transfer window. Ignoring the kids we had 22 first team players, with them spread evenly with 2 in every position for a 532 formation, and the midfield was even split into 3 pairs for the different roles. The only long term injuries we expected at the time were Hobbs, with 5 other centrebacks available, and Cairney who'd only just been injured at Donny. We've been hit with a fair few injuries, but to criticise the squad depth at that stage you'd really be needing to be justifying us having about 30 first team players, and that just can't happen at this level.
Dudgeon, Fryatt & maybe Cairney would have been seen by Brucey as first team players so they need replacing. If Elmo is also injured then we are seriously short in quality
I'd say we've only got 18 first team players available(17 if Elmo's out), we can only name a full bench when we include Townsend, who has little chance of actually getting on the pitch. If we're serious about promotion, we need far more quality than we've got at the moment. Eldin Jakupović Liam Rosenior Andy Dawson Paul McKenna James Chester Corry Evans Aaron McLean Robert Koren Jay Simpson Paul McShane Seyi Olofinjana Ben Amos Abdoulaye Faye Sone Aluko Ahmed Elmohamady Alex Bruce Stephen Quinn Nick Proschwitz
We only have two players on loan and I reckon we need to quickly bring in another three to give our squad any depth. Hope SB is busy out there at the moment, loan players with option to buy in January as we need to kick on then.
Our longest serving players are actually Dawson(2003) and McShane(2007), Cairney and Oli didn't play for us until 2009.
I'm not saying we're not having a selection problem now, I'm saying it's due to the way injuries have hit us (eg two wing backs being out at the same time) rather than us not having done enough in the summer to provide depth to the squad. It's not like last season where even if you started with a fully fit squad if we had 2 or 3 starting players injured we'd struggle to field a team, we're now saying with a load of injuries we're having to name a kid on the bench if we want to fill it.
