No not fashionable but I wouldn't call us unfashionable, I geuss we're like yourselves but with a slightly better reputation and ethos mainly due to the Robson era. A traditional club in the heart of the sleepy community who like to do things in the right way, i.e bring players through the academy, play good attacking football and have that community feel, where I geuss it's not win at all costs. So do you agree with my previous assessment that you commented on or are you just being pedantic because we had an argument the other day? Each football club has it's own ethos(generally) and those clubs I mentioned probably are more happy watching their teams play to put it nicely 'efficient' football. Being brought up as an Ipswich fan watching us under Burley and liking to see style and flair in any sport I want my team to play attractive attacking football, as after all this is an entertainment business, I don't like the whole win at all costs. But again I don't want to see us loose all the time. I think McCarthy is a decent manager and has done well wherever he's been but I'm not his biggest fan, like I think Pulis is a decent manager and has done outstandingly at Stoke but I wouldn't want him as Ipswich manager. McCarthy is a solid appointment and certainly not someone who I think of ME why have we appointed this idiot, I'm not unhappy about I just don't think he's the most inspiring and not my preffered choice but then you rarely get your preffered choice. I would've like the club to take a bit more of a risk and had some more balls (but not someone like Shearer or Keane!!).
well that depends on if you think mick mccarthy is a premier league manager. personally i'd say he's a championship manager who has managed in the premier league. you are far from fashionable. brighton are fashionable, ipswich are not.
This is what I was trying to convey!! For example a club like Crewe, are cr*p but have a decent reputation of doing things in the right way, unlike a more workmanlike image of a club like Grimsby or Scunthorpe!!
We need a championship Manager to get us out of the championship like you have a Championship manager to bring you back to it...... And how can Norwich talk about fashion...............Yellow and Green should never be seen..............
Why ask the question if you're going to state as fact that we're not? Norwich certainly aren't. It's a discussion that would never bear any fruit. The original point was an astute one, we're a different kind of club from Sunderland, Wolves or Birmingham. This thread is about McCarthy, lets keep on topic for a change
not being pedantic at all - i don't think you are fashionable in the slightest. yeah, i agree with you that its probably a safe appointment rather than a gamble like holloway or certainly shearer would have been. mick knows the division well. he's not a miracle worker but i'm sure your results will pick up over the next few weeks... they can't get much worse to be fair. i think he's about as middle-of-the-road as you can get as a manager - mr average. will that be enough to keep you up? time will tell. you've got a better chance than you had under jewell, that's for sure. i suppose he's just not my cup of team as a manager, same as some of your fans believe. i, like you, would have wanted a manager from lower down, looking for their break higher up who is used to winning and would bring not only the winning habit with him but also new philosophies so you could see a long term plan in operation. with mccarthy, you get the feeling your merely treading water, another quick fix if you like. as i've said before, i like him as a bloke, i think he has a dry sense of humour and i find him amusing, he talks a good game and he probably has the discipline to sort your dressing room out but he's not inspiring and his last job ended in disaster. however, maybe one way of looking at it is like this: had coventry appointed him this point last season when rooted to the foot of the table, would you have thought 'that's a bit of a coup' or would you think 'oh dear - that's them funked'? i'd probably say i'd sway more to the first scenario. problem is, you could still end up like coventry. hell of a job on his hands...
I never said Ipswich were fashionable. I said other teams were unfashionable!! Again we appear to agree, just arguing for the sake of arguing and nit picking!!
Dont think Supers was being pedantic at all. I think the word fashionable is one that isnt associated with us currently. FASHIONs change year by year, Shellsuits and bum bags were once fashionable yet its not the current vogue image so is therefore not fashionable. Same can be said of us. 30 years ago fashionable, now not. Possibly respected is a better word or principled, possibly established or traditional but not fashionable but after the amount of posts about us losing our spirit and 'way' then even these are probably not as true as they were 5 years back
quite right. for instance, last season swansea were fashionable, norwich were not, despite us finishing level on points. traditional is the right word to use for ipswich.
Well I apologise for saying you were pedantic. I just find it strange that out of the whole thread you come on here and pick up on one little thing because you thought I was alluding to Ipswich being fashionable!!
purely coincidental, i promise you its a good thread, a good read. hopefully my previous post added to that.
Going back to MM - he's an average manager, with average results. If you look at his overall record, he has a near 50% (49.05% to be precise) points tally. If he carries on that trend over the next 33 games, that gives us an additional 49.5 points, taking us to around the 56/57 point mark, which, if you look at the last 8 years, will put us at 15th in the table. And guess where we have been two of the last three years? Yep - 15th!!!
I'd snap your arm off for 15th this season, my concern is that we will continue to finish 15th in this league
Why settle for 15th? If he can get us a 66% return, points wise, that'll take us up to 73 points, which should be good enough for the playoffs - I'm hopeful (or deluded - take your pick)
I have to say that you are a bit of both. In fact I'm sure our dear friend Royston took Sunderland from bottom of the league to promoted in a similar situation taking them on at a similar point in the season, But in reality we are not that club and we do what we always do. Show some promise by going on a decent run but ultimately not have enough consistency and tail off with some inconsistent results and finish 15th - 19th. The problem we have this season is that we are already behind so it will have to be better than before for us to match our 15th place finishes...
