I cant believe the negative comments on these posts about MM coming to portman road. firstly there was absolutely no chance of a top premier manager coming to p.r. secondly, with our current dire situation now is not the time to experiment with an unproven manger from the lower leagues. what we needed was a manager with a track record of working with a limited budget and still gaining promotion a no nonsense manager who commands respect from the players and god help any players who step out of line. someone who is not frightened to kill off the deadwood, no matter how popular the player is with the fans someone who won`t take any **** from that clown clegg for me MM fits that criteria perfectly. And hand on heart who wouldn`t accept promotion at the end of next season and keep us there for a further three years, as he did at wolves, regardless of his personality or the style of football he endorses right man, right club, right time. best bit of business that ME has done for a long long time.
Have to say Yorkiegit, you are bang on the money with this one. I reckon the players are in for a shock with MM, there won't be anymore of this shrugging shoulders when somebody runs past, there won't be no more of the disorganised shambles of a defence with MM. Fair enough, my opinion is that he is clearly a good manager and a better one than Paul Jewell, however I still have my doubts about whether he is the "Right man, Right club, Right time" but I'm certainly open (and hoping) he can prove that to be the case.

As has already been said mick ticks pretty much every box and I for one am very optimistic about the future with him at the helm. obviously this is all with hindsight but it seems for the first time since Joe Royle that we have the right man in. good luck MM, I'll be there at Birmingham cheering you on hopefully like a lot of others on here! I pretty much agree, I think he's a good manager and I do think he will be good for the club results wise. My concern is whether he will just be a stop gap and also style of football. To me he seems to suit clubs like Birmingham, Sunderland, Wolves, Stoke, those more unfashionable yet efficient clubs. Solid clubs but clubs that don't really inspire. I read somewhere this is a solid, pragmatic yet uninspiring appointment, I'd go along with that!! It seems a bit of a safe appointment.

it's wait and see for me. If he gets results fantastic, but he's not the kind of character I want to see in the dugout. it's not about expecting Redknapp or another top manager. Some people are looking forward to his silly press conferences, i can see the appeal after the last couple of managers but personally if we're going down that road I'd prefer a bit of wit thrown in. I think it's win win for McCarthy, Ipswich are willing to pay him a million quid and another million for staying up. Where was that money when we could have signed Charlie Austin would be my question? So... he was on the list (along with Megson and Ince) of people I wouldn't want in our dugout, and now that these put his signature to a lucrative contract I'm not suddenly going to be happy about it. But I am going to wait and see what happens, to see if he and Clegg can pleasantly surprise me. His first task is to put a stop to all the nonsense going on with Chopra, JET and the like. Hopefully the new manager effect will reap instant rewards and we'll pick up points in the next few weeks. We have tough fixtures though so getting 3 points against the likes of Leicester and Palace will not be easy when (up to now) we can't defend or score goals. It's over to McCarthy now to see what he's made of, he has bitten off a lot to turn this club around. The state he finds the club in is not his fault and it could have been made easier for him by acting four or five weeks ago. I just feel that the lower we place our expectation the lower we'll find ourselves in the league ladder. I think the proof is in the fact that we can attract a premiership manager from last year to a club rooted to the bottom of the championship. So yes, in the championship we are a fashionable club.
I would go along with this evaluation of those clubs. Brighton, Southampton, even Huddersfield are a lot fresher than the clubs mentioned. i think we're a laughing stock at present but i don't think we'll ever have the tired workmanlike image of a club from a northern industrial town and neither will Norwich.
