Not right now, no. He's been making shed-loads of bloopers in the Championship from what I see.

He did look good at the Olympics but they hype around him was mad.

If we need a GK to offset our defence, we don't need Butland, we need a vastly experienced solid GK. IMO Money should be spent on back four not the keeper.

I agree, if we had signed him in the summer i would of been very happy, but right now i'm not conviced he is what we need. I'd pefer either to stick with gazza or get someone like robinson or green.

If we have unlimited money to spend then sure, why not? If we're operating within a budget then no, the money would be better spent on defenders.

I think we have to think short term and to hell with the money for this season just to get the shape of a side that can compete as its obvious the transfers this season have got to pot .

Will Butland be beneficial to Southampton FC ? If yes in any way then sign him .

I can see Cortese in negotiations now:

"You want £12m? Well that's a lot but he does slice a mean half-time orange. Deal!"

I got the impression Gazzaniga was the backup for the Butland transfer falling through, so no, as disappointed as I was that we missed out on him, we don't really need Butland. Unless of course we sack Boruc and decide Butland is good enough to be number 1, which seems an unlikely scenario.

Butland has made some amazing highlight saves, but also some bad mistakes. I think he has fantastic potential, so if Saints have 8 million pounds to spend I would not mind that investment.

But would he help Saints out right now? I don't think so. There are bigger priorities, and even among GK's there are better ones that could be had for cheaper who would make more of an immediate short-term impact.

Short term: Boruc - he'll be fine
Medium term: Boruc being pushed by Gazzaniga
Long term: Gazzaniga being pushed by Cropper

No, we don't need Butland, he's no better than what we have.

Cropper will almost definitely not be here more than a couple of seasons.

Yes, the same way to Alan Shearer being released by Newcastle as a youth I believe.

No need for him, Butland is a promising young Goalkeeper, we have Gazza who is a promising young Goalkeeper. That kind of money could buy a lot of defensive prowess!

agree, Gazza has everything to be a top keeper apart from experience. The main problem is just how crazy is Boruc?

Does it matter? Goalkeepers tend to mature as players later than outfield players, and we must have seen something in Cody Cropper that was promising.
