Quite a while ago i bought up the idea of bringing in a specialist defensive coach and mentioned Tony Adams. I know hes not a fan favourite but our failings this season and last season to a degree have been our defensive tactics. I know our defensive players are not world class but i'm fairly sure they are not as bad as they have been made to look. (i could be wrong) I have never questioned Nigels tactics going forward but since he took charge we have always looked a little naive at the back which has really been evident this season. So is it to late to do an Arsenal and bring in someone who has been there and done it at the highest level to coach our defensive staff. And is this a better option than sacking Adkins and starting a fresh.
How do you know "we" haven't tried? Maybe "we" have tried but couldn't get the person we wanted? Who do people keep posting rubbish assuming that they know what has happened and what hasn't happened?
I would have thought we have a trainer or coach for the defence, if we have then he needs a kick in the bollocks
very sorry steve i will go take a long hard look at myself. If we have tried i'm pretty sure we would of got someone or if we didn't then we should of tried harder for the sake of adkins future.
It's a good idea. Don't know if we have or haven't tried, but a defensive coach would be good unless that is what Crosby does, then we'd have a family split. Tough call that for Nigel if he is. Lee Dixon looks bored on the tv; he'd do.
Never used to like the guy, but you would have to say Gary Neville would be an awesome shout for a role like this. Love him or hate him there is no denying he knows his football.
Adams, Dixon or Neville would be unlikely to be interested in the job and would cost a fortune even if they were. We have coaches at the club already, and let's be honest, with the players we have there's only so much you can do.
Maybe get killer back to give it a go. I seem to remember our defence being ok when he was bossing it.
Truth is there are loads of candidates. Whether it would improve things or not is debatable but I feel it's the only way for Adkins to extend his managerial career at saints.
As I've said numerous times recently, Adkins comes across as a hugely loyal man. One would therefore assume that extends to standing by his assistant, Andy Crosby. I cannot see Adkins wanting someone coming in and effectively taking over Crosby's job. Now of course part of Crosby's job may well have nothing to do with the defence at all (in which case, by all means bring in a new defensive coach). But considering he was a defender, I don't think it's a completely unrealistic assumption to make.
You seem to know an awful lot about the inner workings of the club and have a massive chip on your shoulder... hang on... Dicko is that you?
No idea what your on about but if you think he's a good premier league coach then it's pointless you watching football. All I'm trying to say is Adkins is a dead man walking he either gets help or he dies. Don't think my comments deserve your attitude so either say something worth saying or don't bother.
Ok I'll say something worth saying: your habit of making baseless assumptions about things you have no way of knowing and using these fictions to back up your incessant ranting is intensely annoying. Please stop it.
