Mick McCarthy and his assistant Terry Connor will be confirmed as the new management team at Ipswich Town tomorrow morning.

    http://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/21767/lengthy-deals-for-new-duo

I also heard that this was a done deal at 16:30 today when I was at Playford Road.

I am absolutely delighted by this news and I am sure that the majority of Town fans will now unite behind Mick as he undertakes the massive job that lays before him.

    Welcome to Ipswich Mick <ok>

Have to agree to a certain extent. I've never been anti Mick being appointed and I'll give him and the team my support, but I just can't help thinking we've missed a trick and that we've been here before

    Welcome to Town Mick.

Not sure what you'll bring us in the long run but will reserve judgement until I see what you're all about.
Fully behind you but can't help thinking the natives will get restless after 20 odd months and want a change.

Let's face it, he can't be any worse than the last two muppets we've had. He wasn't my number one choice but i'm a lot happier than the thought of having someone like Alan Shearer. I hope he comes in and clears out the deadwood. Good luck to him.

This is what happens when you have two non footballing people running you club, **** off Evans and **** off Clegg!! Still as the saying goes 'You reap what you sew' and Marcus you have probably screwed your own club but hey to you it probably doesn't matter, gutted, one massive trick missed here YET AGAIN!!!

Bloody hell.....at least let him start the job before you right him off.......

FWIW...Mick was far from my 1st choice, I wanted a younger manager, but with the stories emerging from PR this week it is clear we need a strong no nonsence type to kick some serious butt.....

    Welcome & good luck Mick...

MICK’S the man – that’s the view of former Ipswich Town play-off hero Marcus Stewart.

The ex-Blues striker rates McCarthy as the best manager he has played under after the pair worked together at Sunderland in the Premier League.

The 53-year-old, who, like Paul Jewell, has achieved promotion to the top-flight with two different clubs, remains the leading contender to take over at Portman Road.

And Stewart, who helped Ipswich achieve their last promotion to the Premier League, believes McCarthy would be an ideal choice.

Stewart said: “Mick is a top bloke, a top manager and Ipswich would benefit from having him.

“I can’t speak highly enough of him. I have played under lots of managers and have learnt things from all of them.

“But Mick is the best – I have huge admiration for him and he has a way about him that commands respect.

“His man-management skills are excellent. He is honest and straight-talking and that is why people think he is a disciplinarian.

“He has no airs and graces and I think most players just want to hear the truth.”

Fans appear a little divided over McCarthy’s apparent footballing style – some saying Town might resort to a long-ball game while others only worrying about the club moving away from the foot of the Championship – they are currently four points adrift.

But Stewart believes McCarthy would get the side playing the ‘Ipswich way’.

He explained: “I think Ipswich, as a club, have a brand of football.

“They are associated with a passing game, getting the ball down and getting it forward. I think the new manager has to understand that.

“Mick’s sides have always had creative players alongside the hard-workers and he always encouraged creative football.”

It remains to be seen whether McCarthy, who has managed both Carlos Edwards and Daryl Murphy at club level, will get the top job.
