Anyone see this? http://www.sundaysun.co.uk/sport/su...set-to-join-huddersfield-town-79310-32115493/ With Matty out for the season, worth another go? Been discussed many times I know but seems more likely now that he'd be wiling to make the drop. I think he'd be potent in this current team and confortably hit 15+ again even from January. I know he's from Huddersfield and apparently supports them but I still think he'd pick us over them. I also read that the Huddersfield deal is only on the cards if they don't keep Beckford until the end of the season.
Possibly contraversial, but I reckon I'm one of the few that wasn't too sorry to see him go. He did well for us when we needed it, but there were clear signs he was believeing his own bullshit and at time I thought his attitude was a liability and that this would only get worse. It's possible the last couple of years have tempered him a bit, but he's hardly set the world alight since leaving us.
With Fryatt out andiIf we lose Aluko to the African Nations Cup in January then we need at least one replacement of this quality
I understood his wish to push for the MU first team and never took that as 'believing his own bullshit'; his attitude was excellent in playing a key role in getting us promoted, what happened after the season finished was his business, as his loan had ended. I think his biggest failing was listening to the SAF bullshit, who played both ends against the middle and pushed him towards his old skipper - one Steve Bruce who is now here - lifes a swat at times. Personally I was unimpressed with the manner of how he ignored us, but his old man and SAF were big elements of that - I honestly think he moved for what he thought was career enhancement - so good luck to the lad, because he has had nowt but bad luck since. The big question is - is he still that quality???
I wasn't referring to anything to do with his transfer, but many of the matches before that was even an option. His attitude to officials and players in my view could easily have ended up with him being a liability on the pitch and dressing room. I'm about the only person that agrees with me on this, so accept I could be miles off and that it's history in any event.
I didn't really have an issue with him going to the Mackems, you could see it coming and he obviously saw it as a better move and it probably was at the time. It was only the way he behaved when he scored against us at their place that made him an utter ****. Still, we'd be a better team with him on board and I'm a shallow, fickle football fan, so I'd have him back in an instant. At this level he'd be a class act and he'd massively improve our chances of promotion. In an ideal world, we'd get him on a half season loan, he'd help get us up, then we'd bin the twat.
He probably is a lot more mature now people forget these lads are just kids (without wanting to patronise younger members here) and it's not like he is a sex-offender or scum like some of our ex-players
He certainly would improve our chances of getting up, as at this level he would be prolific scorer I am sure. I hope he has learned a bit about life now, that you don't burn your bridges on the way up as you might need the same bridge on you way down.
I, like many others on here, have always said that this lad in the Championship would still, despite injuries over the last couple of seasons, be a real handful for any defence. Would have him like a shot, but would Steve Bruce ???? not sure of any better options out there at the moment which would consider coming here, and are affordable tbh.
I am with you 100% on this one. The Campbell threads are many, almost as many as Bullard threads. But the story wont go away and with Steve Bruce here it will always be in media spotlight. I for one dont want him back and from what ive seen of him last season and this season (ok ok it was mainly on the box) he has lost it. I personally would have a look at Miles Storey @ Swindon Town. Played 4 games this season and scored 3 goals. 2 of which were last night against Villa. But he is rated much higher than Charlie Austin was and Storey is only 20. From what i understand he is one for the future. Offer Swindon say £300k and leave him there on loan for the season. With Fryatt gone for this season and Cullen not rated by by Bruce its worth a shout. imo As for Campbell ? I would rather have Beckford and thats saying something.
So we want a striker in to cover the place fryatt is missing this season, so you propose signing a young unproven striker and leaving him out on loan for the season, still leaving us with that gap...
I never said that to its extreme. I said sign Miles Storey for the future. Its going to be hard to replace Fryatt but Campbell is certainly not the player.
Of course he is. What's wrong with Campbell? He's fast, tidy technique, great finisher, and can score at this level as he proved with us scoring the same amount of goals as fryatt in half the amount of time. Why is he not the player?
4 years down the track. 2 long layoffs since and IMO cannot do it anymore. ive said it many times, He had his chance to come to us and turned it down. We should move on. DMD is correct in what he also says. imo
He turned down brown and duffen who foolishly sat patiently and waited after he'd probably already said we were last resort. The only links left between the club and him then and the club and him now are andy Dawson, Tom cairney, and Liam cooper. The Allams and Bruce really are not going to give a flying **** if he strung up brown and duffen if they think he'll improve the squad within budget. He's what, 25, he's anything but past his best. So are cairney and Stewart by that reckoning.
