A fine Charles Banya effort and a Marcello Trotta brace saw Fulham Under-21s overcome Chelsea 3-1 at a rain-soaked Craven Cottage on Friday evening.

Kit Symons named Kerim Frei, Philippe Senderos and Ashkan Dejagah in his starting XI as they continued their comebacks from their respective injuries. New signing Mickael Tavares was also handed a starting berth.

    Fulham: 1.Somogyi, 2. Grimmer, 3. Kavanagh, 4. Tavares, 5. Senderos (14. Brister, 45 mins), 6. Musa, 7. Dejagah (15. Kasami, 45 mins), 8. Smith (c), 9. Trotta, 10, Frei (16. Dongean, 73 mins), 11. Banya. Subs (not used): 12. Grainger, 17. Pritchard.

    Fulham v Crystal Palace (U18s)

Despite losing to Chelsea in their last match, our U18 team is really good this season. Although Palace haven't been getting results, as mentioned in the Club blurb below, they shouldn't be underestimated. As a club they've consistently produced some talented youngsters for a number of years - just ask our U21 side! Should be a good game.

The game is at Motspur Park tomorrow and disappointingly the Club say, from now on only season ticket holders can attend. Doesn't affect me but as others have said before, what about the kids and older supporters? Interestingly the U21s play Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday night and that's open to all (for a modest charge).

I was poodling around the Academy bit on the Club site and it looks as though we've signed a new youngster -16 year old Cameron Burgess. Australian footballer, although he was born in Scotland, who plays centre back/left side.

That'll make an Aussie U21 CB (James Musa) and now one in the U16s.

Going to be a tough one rosc, especially since more senior players like Frei won't be playing. Be interesting to see how Tavares gets on. Palce have produced some great youngsters over the last few years, I think we were both at that first game and saw how pacy they were.

How good they can be was confirmed at yesterday's U18 game Fulham 1 Crystal Palace 2. Mind you, by all accounts this was the worst display all season by our side. We started brightly and got an early goal by Cauley Woodrow. After that our rythm just went and in the second half Palace scored twice and ended up comfortable winners. Haven't got any details yet what the team line up was.

    Crystal Palace 1 Fulham 0 (U21s)

Fulham put out a strong team

    ………………..Stockdale…………..
    ..Grimmer……Brister…Mousa……Briggs…
    …………Smith……Tavares………
    …..Kasami………Frei………Banya…
    ………………Trotta……..

We had most of the possession in the first half but never created any clear chances. Lots of corners that came to nothing except one header from Mousa that went just wide. Smith had a lot of the ball but there was no movement up front. Palace always looked dangerous when they did attack, although their goal after about 20 mins was poor defence. They were unlucky not to score before that with a shot that hit the bar and could have gone two up when they got a penalty 15 mins before half time. Stockdale made a really good save.

The second half was much the same but all we had to offer was a couple of long range efforts. Stockdale again made two decent saves. Islamovic came on for Trotta and Christensen for Smith after 70 mins. but if anything made even less impact. Ryan Williams came on for Kasami 10 mins. from the end.

In fairness, Palace were strong in defence and were quite happy to sit back and try to take us on the break, especially in the second half. However we made it too easy for them with lots of square passing. Frei kept buzzing around but never really got anywhere. Brister and Briggs were the only ones prepared to run at them. Brister was probably our best player.

Of the other ‘senior’ players, very disappointing that Kasami wasn’t able to link with Frei and his passing was poor. Tavares came into the game a bit more in the second half but that wouldn’t have been hard. It was the same old, same old from Trotta - offering not a lot to the team and he was far too slow with the three chances he had in the first half.

Sorry to repeat myself but Kasami and Trotta are just not doing themselves or the youngsters any good by playing in the U21s.

Was at this one and have just arrived back.
Disappointment, was not the word i would use,I felt there were players tonight that thought
playing at this level was below them. Kasami And Trotta were the worst 2 culprits, " have they got the ability"
I am not so sure, their commitment to the team is none existant, with these 2 we played with a 9 man team. Frei
another one who did not seem as if he wanted to be there
Brister a solid performance,as was Williams. Islomavic should have been brought on earlier.
Palace looked superior in most positions, and I thought we were lucky to get away with 1 goal.
My future prospect Joronen was on the bench so he is still around.

    The line up was -

    ...............Obershmidt.................
    .Passley..Arthurworrey..Burgess...Richards..
    ..Dalle Valle..Hyndman..Sambou..Evans..
    .......Tankovic...Woodrow..

Subs used: G. Williams and O'Reilly

The new Aussie guy, Cameron Burgess was playing his first game, making a monster back two - the combined height of him and Arthurworrey is 12 foot 8 inches. Solomon Sambou was back from injury and one of the players subbed in the second half; the other was Tom Richards.

Mousa Dembele is still out injured.

    Woles 2 Fulham 2 (U18s)

Goals from Cauley Woodrow and Jordan Evans earned the U18s a draw away to Wolves. As usual there are no details or team sheet from the Club in their post - I wish they would take time and provide something meaningful than try to be prompt, but skimpy.

In this report of the game by Wolves, it dertainly seems as though our lads played well and perhaps should have taken all points -

    Wolves 1 Fulham 2 (U21s)

Against an experienced Wolves team, this was an excellent win. Dino Islamovic and Alec Smith got our goals.

As you'll see from this report by the Club (a decent one this time), the team was a genuine U21 side - no Kasami, no Trotta, no first teamers at all - and lo and behold the younsters get a result. Kind of nice to be vindicated wouldnt you say, rosc.

Very much so Cottager, this must give MJ a serious thoughts
    about,loaning out Kasami & Trotta.
If they go on loan they would be better going to a lowly placed
championship side than a high flying div 1 or 2 side.
