Right, before this thread descends into a slag fest between the Chavs and Mancs, I'd like to remind you that this thread is about discussing the bias, whether intentional or not that has been and is still afforded to Man Utd <ok>

Some are worse than others. Ken Bates has had a fair bit to say recently about Chelsea's glorious past.

    Good for him.

My point is we've all got ****ers who share the club we support, I'm just saying don't base a club's entire fan base on that group.

Torres should have walked for the studs in Cleverley's chest
Valencia shouldn't have been booked for diving
Torres shouldn't have been booked for diving
    Hernandez' goal shouldn't have stood

I make that 2-2 on bad decisions in Utd vs Chelsea. I'm not including Ivanovic getting away with a two footed tackle on Evra, cos that would just make your argument look silly <ok>

When it's one red card each not given, and one penalty each not given, that evens out. When one player is sent off, and an offside goal stands, against a yellow card and a red card not given, then it doesn't "even out" does it? The two crucial decisions (to send off Torres and allow Hernandez goal to stand) BOTH went in Uniteds favour.

Not really. The only reason you claim they were crucial decisions was that Utd won the game. Had Torres rightly been sent off before half time with the score at 2-1 Utd then that would have been a far more crucial decision, as Chelsea would have struggled to equalise being a man down. But Utd went on and won the game anyway, so that decision ended up having no impact, other than probably to our goal difference.

Beside which, the decision was not to send Torres off, the decision was to book him for diving. So the actual decisions are two players incorrectly booked for diving, one Utd goal wrongly given and one (arguably two) Chelsea players not sent off when they should have been. It's hardly Utd, or the ref's, fault that Torres had already made a horrendous challenge to get himself a yellow card in the first place, so his booking was more significant in the context of the game than Valencia's.

Did I just seriously read a United fan lambast a club for hooliganism?

The same United that had the largest and most notorious hooliganism firm and caused terror at 2nd division grounds and even robbed their own local shops as well as waiting outside various train stations for opposition fans.

Even now United have more arrests than any other club for it. You only need to ask Barnsley or anyone that works inside the away section of a football ground to realise what scum their away fans are.

I need a lie down because I'm struggling to take in all the hypocrisy I'm reading on this page

I think United fans are being deliberately obtuse, no one's saying wrong decisons are only made in United games and that they all go to United. Most bigger teams tend to benefit from the ref favouring them but United get a lot more of them.

Rooney should have been sent off too if we're stacking up the decisions.

It's amazing United fans still playing ignorant.

Most Spurs and Arsenal fans would have wanted them to beat us (certainly all the Spurs and Arsenal fans I know anyway). It speaks volumes that even they can see Clattenburg made costly decisions in their favour as he has done in the past.

I don't think anyone's denying that big teams get more decisions and Utd benefit from them a lot. Look at the number of penalties given over the past ten years - Utd - 60, Chelsea - 58, Arsenal - 56, Liverpool - 55, City - 48. It's basically a weighted list of the relative levels of success of those five clubs since 2002!

All I disagree with is the view that Utd are somehow the only club who benefits, or that we get systematic "favours" or "subconcious bias" from refs / the FA / the media / anyone you care to think of. That when Arsenal get the benefit of the decisions, like in the last two games, it's cos the officials had bad games. When Utd get the benefit, it's cos the ref is bent or biased.

Ultimately, the spotlight falls on Utd partly cos we get a lot of decisions, but also cos we are the best at exploiting the decisions we get, and coping with the ones we don't. Yesterday's game being a prime example. Chelsea got some massive help from the referee with Torres and Ivanovic both still being on the pitch at half time. They also had a massive chance to exploit it, dominating the first part of the second half, and I have no doubt they would have taken the lead. Had Ivanovic not made a monumental cock up which let us right back into the game.

The argument about Utd getting most of the decisions is also influenced a lot by the bias (either conscious or subconscious PISKIE ;)) that other fans feel towards Utd. Ask yourselves the following questions:

    1. If Scholes had made a studs in chest tackle like Torres did on Cleverley and only gotten booked for it, would you be completely outraged that he had gotten away with it?
    2. If Hazard had been clean through on goal and Vidic had run across the back of him making the slightest contact, would you have expected Vidic to get an automatic red card and been outraged if he hadn't?
    3. If Ashley Young had thrown himself to the ground theatrically after minimal contact and been shown a second yellow, would you have thought it was his own fault given his history of embarrassing dives?

There is evidence that the big clubs get more favourable decisions, and Utd get more than their fair share.
