Thought I would start this before Gomarchin. IMO Nigel had no option but top go with youth tonight. More injuries and he would have been pilloried on here!. Fact remains though the clock is ticking and we need points quick. So is West Brom his last chance?
I would keep him around, even if for no other reason than I generally don't think it makes sense to change managers mid-season. Regardless of what I think, the rope is getting very short. A performance against West Brom like the team had tonight and I'm afraid that may be it.
A loss in the cup really shouldn't be the trigger to sack a manager. Having said that that was an absolutely awful performance. Why bother selling tickets for it? Why bother even sending players up for it?
I know what our main objective is this season but we could show a bit more ****ing desire on the pitch. We've had over 60% possession and no shots on target and that's coming from biased Saints commentary. Absolute disgrace. We aren't playing again until Monday night, maybe if we fielded a decent team and got a result it would give us momentum going back into the league. I ****ing hate football, wish we were winning every game in the Championship again. I suppose next season we could well have the chance to. I hate Leeds too. Wall to wall with ****s from the manager, to the players, ****ing El Hadji Diouf, that **** Brown, to the hateful ****bag fans. I wouldn't be against a change in management this side of Christmas.
It has to improve and as much as I like Nigel it has become quite clear that he does not have the skills to manage or recruit a PL squad. Although tonights loss was only a cup game it is indicative of his lack of experience and results will only get worse, SFC need to stay in this league and he will not keep us there.
There have been some odd decisions - eg not signing a CB in the transfer window, ****ing about with goalkeepers, strange substitutions, tactics and tonights farce. However we are not down and out in the PL, We are still in touching distance, we will be a different team with Cork and Ramirez back -very unlucky with those injuries and really who the hell would we get in to replace Adkins
This is the key point, to a lot of people inside football if we were to sack Adkins after the West Brom game it would be seen as incredibly harsh. This may have an affect on who would want the job, and our options may only be journeymen type managers who are just looking for a way back into football rather than someone with a good rep, or taking a punt on someone from the lower leagues at a smaller club.
Nigel needs to walk if we get nothing from mondays game. I pains me to say it but he does not deserve to be pulled in to the horrible world of abuse that comes from certain pockets of fans. Nigel seems a top guy but sometimes the hardest thing to admit is that at times you just may be out of depth and there is no shame in it!
We will more than likely lose at West Brom, they are a much better team than us, thats a fact. Whats the point of changing the manager when half of the club's decisions are being made by Cortese & Les Reed? What other "good managers" would work under that??? I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo glad the club isn't run by "the fans" though. Because our fans are ****ing kneejerking crybaby idiots.
Not the one that Adkins wanted... or had even heard of. But he did sell some Saints shirts in Japan, which of course, is all important these days.
Sorry, and that isn't knee jerk? Seriously, stop making these assertions unless you have the slightest shred of proof. It's ludicrous.
This actually cheered me up! Man, you're actually incandescent with rage. Personally, after the misery that followed throwing away that lead against Man Utd, I've been numb ever since, but I feel your pain anyway.
Yes. Its been obvious for ages. Cortese & Reed do all the purchasing of players, Adkins voice is the 3rd in line for that. I'm not sure Cortese is picking the team, but I believe he is "suggesting" that certain players should be given a go and putting pressure on Adkins to play a certain quota of youngsters. Any new manager would either have to be used to that system (like they have in europe) or would have to sacrifice his principles. I honestly think that Nigel will resign before being sacked. My gut tells me he's not enjoying it anymore and thats what drives him.
