Given the reports that you have heard so far, and remembering the strict rules of evidence apply ie if you hate referees/ Chelsea that should totally influence your opinion. What is everyones feeling that someone could be called Spanish in this day and age. The allegation that clutt called mikel a monkey I find absolutely incredibly difficult to accept. Someone is lying here.

I'd like to know what the authorities were thinking of putting Clattenburg in charge of a game this important in the first place - he's a serial tosser, panics under pressure and he's a prize showboater. Surely D'Urso would have been a better bet.

    Accident waiting to happen.

Ah but listen to this .... Clutterberg is supposed to be the best ref in the land right? But when did he last ref a Man U game before Sunday? The 6.1 loss to man city many games ago and statistically he should have reffed Man U twice since and as a top ref prObably more. So why did he only get back on board on Sunday?

You're not seriously suggesting that Chelsea players would lie?

God no. Terry already got a mate to say he was staying the night at his.

If you fancy a good conspiracy theory look up this site 'the dim in Beirut' and find the piece about ref selection corruption.

I can feel a conspiracy theory coming on here, typical...<laugh>

The thing I remember him for most is not sending off the bloke that ended Martin Pringle's career, mind you he only broke his leg in two places, so he was probably giving him the benefit of the doubt.

    Complete idiot.

Chelsea have previous with this kind of accusation aimed at refs. I hope for their sake they did all the necessaries first, otherwise it will be another PR disaster for their club.

Romeu has already said mata and Torres didn't hear anything. Be interesting to see where this goes.

I love a good conspiracy, a grassy knoll, a fiat panda and a ref looking to get on Man U's Xmas card list.

They say that the terry thing cost the tax payer about 40 million, not including the FA bill who paid out Capello and expensive lawyers to get around the law.

This thing is gonna be huge and I mean huge.

This one will run and run........................................................The idea that it will get sorted out quickly is wishful thinking. It's a bit like the plebgate row- liars accusing each other of lying, trying to guess who's telling the truth is a guessing game.

Oh god it is boring...but if its about race, this countries suits and snobs will fall over themselves to ensure that no stone is unturned and no pound unspent to ensure justice can be undone, ignoring such trivialaties like of evidence, equality and proportionality.

But this little episode could be the perfect oppourtunity for the massive overhaul of refereee selection and close examination of the subtle corruption that has gone on in this game since Fergie took over. I would like a to see an expose of ref selection, who chooses what refs for what games? When Man U lose why does that ref 'skip' the cycle of selection, narrowing down the criteria to a handful of referees who have passed the Fergie tests. Why are Refs so bad? Why do we pay them to make mistakes?

The standard of reffing is appaling and is getting worse. What other profession can get away with no accountability?

Worse PR than chief exec, manager, captain and player going into the referees' room and screaming abuse at them?

Worse PR than a steward being attacked and objects thrown at Hernandez?

If Clattenburg said it, then he has to go.

If Chelsea have made it up (and they have previous for attacking referees in the Champions' League too, forcing one ref to quit), I think points deduction.

    We'll see what happens

    Interesting conspiracy theory, typical

Definitely. And you are again right about the steward - that was a disgusting image.

Don't get me wrong, if Clattenburg did say it then he has to go. I am just sceptical to Chelsea's claims due to their past. And the fact Romeu has already come out saying Mata and Torres didn't hear a thing, but then Mata told him later he had to stay behind to give evidence.

Clattenburg has previous... does this remind you of anything that happened over the weekend?

If you want to see for yourself why the standard is poor go and see some kids' games and listen to the abuse refs get from the parents. Even at a cubs' tournament a few years ago the standard of behaviour by some dads was shocking. You should also hear some of the abuse refs get at some under-18 games. I can't understand anyone wanting to be a ref, and take this abuse week in week out, and if they make it to the top they get abused by whoever the losing manager happens to be. No wonder not enough people want to be referees. Add to that the amount of cheating and "going down easily" honestly who would want to be a ref?

FHB I don't disagree that refs get it big time at all levels and at park level it's borders on insanity. But this is the thing, Daddy Chav watching his kid in the park is always going to be an animal, he can't help it. That is a parental malfunction, they have, one day bashing the kid stupid with a belt for losing a fight with his teacher, the next screaming at him on a pitch like a baboon and flattening the ref for giving an offside. They are filth, scum and probably best castrated but they are not the reason why referees are so bad, that answer lies in subtle corruption within uefa, the FA and the greed of the referees themselves.

If you pay someone 75k a year to ref, you assume to rely on their integrity and honesty of that ref to do a decent job. That job and wage is put on trial every game for 90 minutes. However, every decision right or wrong will have a negative reaction. You send off a Man U player correctly, you don't referee them again, your profile sinks, your back to league 1, you send one off incorrectly your tv roasted, but funnily enough get to ref them again a lot sooner. They have you by the balls now, you owe them, your career depends on you getting this inbalanced-balanced. That is the Fergie Syndrome, a common condition very akin to Fergie time or old Trafford penalty.

You can't stop the bigger clubs getting the decisions unless you ref from the tv gantry, nobody in the magic circle of football teams wants that because it is too fair and you can't influence the individual.

Except that it's not just the refs at the top is it? If you look at some of the refs we had last season you'll know what I mean. I'd say the ones this season are slightly better. I believe the ones in the Premier league are promoted on merit, but then they have to cope with more cheating by the players, not to mention abuse by celebrities like Rooney. I think football must learn from rugby, where it is all much more open, the refs are not allowed to get too chummy or starstruck with the players, and they don't take any crap from them either.
