Yes, read that there have been 80 deaths due to hurricane sandy, 15 of which happened in the states. I feel sorry for the 65 who are going to be forgotten when this is all over.

on the media point, it's also rather focused on NY. I know a lot of people live there, but what about Washington, Philadelphia, Boston? also the areas that have been battered by snow. if there was a storm here would it just focus on London? Odd
I think the newsfeed you are receiving is what the BBC (UK TV) are choosing to show you. In the US, each State has its own local news and weather channels. There's no shortage of coverage. When the storm hit Jamaica and Haiti, it was also all over the US News.
there is a considerable media bias in this country when it comes to reporting. ok, it wasn't london but it might as well have been. when there was terrible flooding in northern cities and towns a few years ago it barely got a mention on the national news. flooding then happened in tewkesbury and wouldn't you know it, every media outlet went there to report it. maybe its cos its prettier than reporting down a street in hull
i think that's a fair comment supers. the only way around it is to look / listen to different types of media to try and get a balanced view, but then if it's a blanket coverage you've no chance. you never win.
I was over there 1 week ago so consider myself very lucky indeed to have had a great 10 days there & to get back safely. To be fair to the US media, they were covering the storm well when it was down in the Caribbean, e.g. Jamaica/Haiti. Although I think we all realise it's a fake photo, another pointer is that the storm (which is much more expansive anyway) is behind the SoL - which isn't right seeing as the SoL faces SE.
