Norwich previously beat Scunhorpe United at Carrow Road 2-1 in the 2nd Round with goals from Simon Lappin and a Wes Hoolahan penalty, followed by a win against Doncaster Rovers at home 1-0 in the 3rd Round with an Alex Tetty goal proving the winner. Tottenham had a 3-0 3rd Round away win at Carlisle United with goals from Jan Vertonghen, Andros Townsend and Gylfi Sigurdsson. This will be the 79th time the two teams have met. Norwich City were founded in 1902 by three former Norwich Church of England Young Men's Society players. The club lost their amateur status in 1905 and joined the Southern League shortly afterwards. The first meeting between Spurs and Norwich came in April 1906 in the Southern League and the East Anglian club won 4-1 at White Hart Lane. The reverse fixture at Newmarket Road was won by Spurs 3-0. Vivian Woodward scored three goals for Spurs against Norwich that season. The clubs met for two further seasons in the Southern League, resulting in two wins for Norwich, a win for Spurs and a drawn match. Spurs joined the Football League for season 1908-09 and the next meeting with Norwich came in the old second round (today's fourth round) of the FA Cup in January 1915 at "The Nest" in Rosary Road, resulting in a 3-2 win for the Canaries. Four friendlies were played between 1916 and 1925 with Spurs winning two games, Norwich one and one drawn game. The first Football League meeting between the two clubs came in the Second Division in December 1935 with Spurs winning 2-1 at the Lane, while Norwich won the reverse fixture 1-0 in April 1936 at their new home in Carrow Road. The clubs met for a further three seasons in Division Two resulting in four wins for Spurs and two for Norwich. During World War Two, Spurs & Norwich played two matches in the Football League South. An FA Cup fifth round match in February 1959 ended in a 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane and Norwich pulled-off a 'giant killing' act by beating Spurs 1-0 in the replay at Carrow Road. The first meeting in the Top Flight of English Football came in October 1972 when a Martin Chivers goal at Carrow Road wasn't enough to prevent a 2-1 win for Norwich. The clubs contested the 1973 Football League Cup Final at Wembley and a Ralph Coates goal was enough to bring the silverware to White Hart Lane. Martin Chivers scored a brace in Tottenham's 3-1 win against Norwich in the reverse First Division fixture at the Lane a week later. The clubs met regularly in Division One from season 1973-74 to 1991-92 with honours being generally even. Both Spurs and Norwich were founder members of the Premier League in 1992-93, but the Canaries lost their top flight status after the 1994-95 season and returned for one season in 2004-05. Spurs won 6 of the 10 Premier League matches played with Norwich winning twice and two drawn games. The clubs met in a pre-season friendly at Carrow Road in July 2008 with Darren Bent scoring four goals in a 5-1 Spurs win. The fixture at Carrow Road last season in December resulted in a rather comfortable 2-0 away win for Spurs, thanks to a brace of goals scored by Gareth Bale in the 55th and 67th minutes. Things were rather different for the revese fixture at White Hart Lane in April 2012 with Spurs losing 1-2 to Norwich. Jermain Defoe scored for Spurs with Anthony Pilkington and Elliott Bennett netting for the Canaries in a match which would prove vital for Tottenham's Champions League qualification chances. During the Summer, former Spurs player and assistant manager Chris Hughton was appointed Norwich manager, Cameroon defender Sebastien Bassong moved from Spurs to Norwich for a £3,750,000 transfer fee and Spurs striker Harry Kane joined Norwich on a season's loan. The Premier League match at White Hart Lane in September resulted in a 1-1 draw with Mousa Dembele putting Spurs ahead after 68 minutes only for Robert Snodgrass to score a late equaliser with just five minutes remaining. Overall, Spurs have won 34, Norwich have won 23 and 21 of the 78 matches between the two clubs have been drawn. please log in to view this image Full History of Tottenham Hotspur v Norwich City Matches 1906-2012 please log in to view this image They Played for Spurs & Norwich.... Good to have you back 6061! Will be brilliant for us posters now to have you and Boss (hopefully) working on the match threads Both are excellent Hoping to see a little rotation but not a complete overhaul. Hopefully Dawson and Naughton will start, maybe some game time for Dembele and Ade if they're fit enough. Not sure I want to say Lloris in goal, because that'll likely mean he won't start against Wigan on Saturday which I really hope he does! Team I'd like to see is: Friedel/ Carlo (which'll hint Lloris MAY start in the League) Walker, Dawson, Caulker, Naughton Dembele*, Huddlestone Falque, Sigurdsson, Bale Ade* * If fit, if not then Sandro and Defoe in respectively. Think Falque deserves a chance after his impressive display vs Maribor and Lennon has played every game I think(?) so deserves a bit of a rest in my opinion. Subs: Friedel/ Carlo, Vertonghen, Sandro**, Lennon, Townsend, Livermore, Defoe** ** If Sandro and Defoe need to start due to Dembele and Ade still out, then I'd put Carroll and Mason in the squad. Depending on how seriously the players take it, I'd say we can win 2-0. Though if they turn up uninterested and similar to how we've played in Europe thus far, then 1-0 Norwich.
How weak should our team be for the game then? I think Norwich will be ringing a few changes too as getting themselves so we should use this as an opportunity to give our fringe players a run out and rest some of the regulars. There's always a risk with making too many changes that the performance becomes disjointed and none of the players get any benefit from playing but on the otherhand Wigan have their game a day before us and an easier tie so I'd rather we bombed out with a side that doesn't have our best players in than went for a stronger side and made it more difficult for ourselves in the league game. With that said, I guess the side we played against Carlisle will be seen as a template for the kind of strength we can expect (Cudicini, Vertonghen, Dawson, Caulker, Smith, Dempsey, Huddlestone, Sigurdsson, Falque, Townsend, Mason). I'd go with: Lloris; Smith, Dawson, Caulker, Naughton; Livermore, Huddlestone; Sigurdsson, Falque, Livermore; Dempsey/Ade *Bench of Cudicini, Vertonghen, Walker, Sandro, Carroll, Pritchard, Mason/Dempsey. Not sure where we're at with injuries of Benny, Dembele and Ade but hoping Ade in particular will be able to play. If we're just resting Dembele like Fulham did with his injury he should be back for Wigan, if not it might be best to give Huddlestone no more than a half.
Crouchie sporting a lovely pair of 'Dynasty' style shoulder pads! Bentley's complaints to the ref seem in vain...looks like as blatant a case of handball to me!
Some insight into Norwich's possible line up here http://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/...ready_to_shuffle_pack_against_spurs_1_1673766 also here http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/footbal...eview/preview-norwich-vs-tottenham_52211.html Unsurprisingly I want Lloris to play on Wedensday and Saturday and go for Lloris; Smith, Dawson, Caulker, Naughton; Sandro, Huddlestone/Dembele Sigurdsson, Bale/Lennon, Falque, Dempsey/Ade Bench of Cudicini, Vertonghen, Walker, Bale/Lennon, Mason, Hudd/Pritchard, Defoe/Dempsey. I hope we play a strong team as if we win this we're in the Q/Fs. I'd be tempted to play both Lennon and Bale and bench Falque, but maybe he deserves a starting role.
According to someone on another site who went to the open training session, Ade wasn't there. Assuming that's true and that he won't play Wed, I'd go for Dempsey up top and play both Bale and Lennon, as otherwise we might be short on goals.
Latest update on Ade, he's now got a stomach bug. It's like the 10 plagues of Eygpt with him ATM. Anyway, apparently there is a chance he can play at Norwich, be a great boost if he could. http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11661/8209476?
Yes,I'd like to see Ade play tomorrow. Norwich have struggled to score and only beat Doncaster 1-0 but their win against the goons might have boosted their confidence a bit. I mention Doncaster but cup comps often produce surprises and Norwich must not be taken lightly. Again I'd like to see a two goal win and a clean sheet. I've nothing against player rotation but wish it could be with a better forward than Defoe. As usual I hope he proves me wrong.
No Ade or Dembele at the open training session would suggest its unlikely we'll see them before Wigan to me.
It doesn't have to be Defoe. A front 3 of Bale Lennon and Dempsey v Norwich may well do the trcik. Dempsey has already scored two vital vital winners away from home this season, I love that kind of trait in a player. Hopefully, he'll be over the worst of his jet lag and travel weariness by today, and a relatively short journey to Norwich shouldn't be too tiring. I want Ade to start, but as long as Clint is backed up by pace he can do a decent job for us I reckon.
