There's some far reaching consequences here whichever way the outcome goes. The reprecussions for Clattenburg if guilty are obvious (4 game ban? :p) but Chelsea have cried wolf before regarding referees and, in terms of reputation, can't afford to be guilty of another false claim.

He didnt get that wrong. Unless you expect refs to call offsides?

Good luck with that one <ok>

He could have if necessary have over-ruled the linesman. The linesman incorrectly didn't flag for off-side. Hernandez was clearly off-side.

Easy to say from 100s of miles away on a TV with Skys 2million replays.

Not so easy being in the referees position who relies on his linesman.

How often has a ref overturned an offside decision? Very rare.

Back on topic Chelsea players once accused Poll of abuse after sending Terry off. Lying about a ref because he dared to cross them is something they are not afraid of doing.

    100 of miles away?
The referee is usually in line with play and can over-rule a linesman. I've seen it done before, one year Liverpool were playing in Europe and a linesman called off-side when there was no way it could have been. It was scored from a corner. No player can be off-side having scored from a corner. The referee over-ruled his linesman.

You are the one 100's of miles away. Not the ref.

And erm.... a corner is different to open play. Surely you know this.

    I do know this.
However on occasions linesmen do cock up and the ref can over-rule. On this occasion the referee didn't do his job and call a clear off-side, in the same way the referee in the Arsenal game didn't call an off-side.

  8. I actually think the only answer other than stopping the game every two minutes to watch replays is to get rid of all the cameras at games. Have three, middle and each end. Referees wouldn't be under the same pressure if they aren't judged so much.

Just been on BBC news about it, and of course they had to mention the high profile, Premier League examples of players found guilty by the FA for racially-connected offences. Suarez, Terry..... but they seemed to miss another one.

    Wonder why? :afro:

try telling that to that idiot bennett yesterday at GP. He's not related to Steve Bentref is he? Has Gill got Riley to introduce a cloning programme like The Boys From Brazil so you've an endless supply of Utd - loving officials?

Btw UIR, thanks for the heads up on Breaking Bad. My sister's been on about it for years, but I took your advice and downloaded it. On Series Three, ep 9 atm.

Your fellow Cloggies will now be urging you to advise me to top myself. <ok>

    Not a bad idea.
Could it be like Rugby, you know the way, it can be determined whether someone scored a try or didn't score a try? Or like what they use in Ice-hockey?

I imagine officials have always got things wrong-it's just that there wasn't the level of scrutiny that we get today.

  13. Difficult to implement though. Yes, two minutes to check whether Suarez was onside but what about when the flag isn't raised like with Hernandez? Are we going to check every goal? Players and managers would certainly request it after every goal just in case there is something to save their bacon.

Think each side should have 3 appeals a game like cricket. It could easily be done.

I just can't understand why referees cannot adopt the rugby union stance and call upon a 3rd official ofr any judgement in the box which he (the referee) is not 100% sure of. However, the reference to the 3rs official MUST always be along the lines of "Is there any reason why I cannot award X?"

Because FIFA don't want to admit that rugby have it right and football does it wrong.

apparently all the statements made by chelsea players have been returned to them as they forgot to use the word "Black" in them.

any word from lord ouseley on this - he kept going on about Suarez but would not comment on the length of the ban given to John Terry - what a hypocrite

Apparently this was allegedly on the direction of David Gill, vice chair of the Ferguson Association who I hear from David Ike is being granted membership of the Council on Foreign Relations and Trilateral Commission. This was financed by the Illuminati and News International.
