If the only thing we have to be cheerful about is Pompeys results in League 1 then we really must be having a bad time of it!

Yes, I noticed they must have been watching West Ham recently, it wasn't pretty to watch, but fairly effective up to a point, the point being a brick wall pair of Centre backs, who made one mistake between them and that resulted in the penalty.

I have always said that if a disaster hit for example Birmingham, Sky Sports would report it as: Today a nuclear bomb hit Birmingham...the following matches have been cancelled.

Well today, they said Hurricane Sandy hit New York leaving some dead and millions without electricity...luckily the sports sides were out of town.

Fair enough. I've not been a social worker in the statutory sense, but I have worked for large charities, in roles such re-housing homeless youths from hostels to more independant accomodation. I don't get a massive bee in my bonnet about these things generally, but I think social workers generally get used as a scapegoat.

Its perferctly fine for people to do jobs without the fear of whether they are making a massive contribution to the economy lashing at their heals. There will always be jobs suited to people who work in education, or with people on the fringes of society, artists etc. Not everyone will agree, but I certainly think these jobs contribute to society.

Thats fine - you have a point with everything that you write here.

I'm afraid though that in the hustle & bustle of industrial work, many of us do look at some of these people as namby pamby non-producers but i am also realistic to know that we need them all to make up society. Over the years too many of the do-gooder types have helped cloud our perception of them with ultra pc views on what they perceive to be the perfect world - and probably some do get used as scapegoats. Some of the school teachers that have taught my children are a good example - there have been some excellent teachers but too many have tried to push 'leftie' ideas on the kids with regard to racism, society, history, our culture, religion, politics, etc, etc - to the point that i and other parents have went to the school and given them both barrells ( metaphorically i might add for any do-gooders reading this ! ). Guardian-reading useless sods - grrrr ! !

Apparently due to weather shifts, New York will get more of thise severe weather every year now. Tall buildings won't seem such a good idea if that's true.

Well I'm glad the teachers are giving your kids a different perspective to yours to be honest. I'm sure your kids are smart enough to make up their own minds if they are given both points of view.

Do you ever wonder if the whole world seems to have a liberal bias because your calibration is slightly off?

No way - there is nothing wrong with my perspective, i am very similar in outlook to the vast majority of people in this country. None of us like the wet liberal outlook of a few in our country. My kids, and their friends, are fine thankfully - they are well rounded, hard working, anti-nanny state, humerous and above all healthy. We only need teachers to teach facts at school - not to offer an alternative point of view thank you very much. That load of sh--- comes when they go to university, especially those that do the money wasting do-gooder courses and not study things that are useful to them and this country/ the world like engineering, science, etc, etc.
My calibration is spot on and no i have never wondered about it at all.
Bloody hell PTF i can see that it is going to take quite a few pints of SA to get you round to my way of thinking and get you helping to get this country manufacturing again !!
