I am begining to think that relegation could be a good option, Premier league is proper boring 1 game a week if we are lucky then thats not normally on a saturday. I used to love looking forward to a good old 3pm kick off on a saturday few pints before kick off few more afterwards and last train home. Now its, better take it easy as its work tomorrow or being dragged round the shops with the wife. I demand nigel gets us relegated and the sooner the better.

this thread is meant in jest cheer up people its nearly christmas.

Women's Football's like that: it's one game a week pretty much (unless you're in the Champions League).

A couple of weeks ago, we didn't even play a game for no apparent reason!

Ha-ha, very good. I think I've made it quite clear that I do not like the Premier League, for all its razzmatazz and hype, as I'm only interested in Saints, not who we play. Yes indeed, 1 game per week, if we're lucky [not this week however, there's Leeds Utd to contend with tomorrow night] and then there's often yet another international break around the corner [not this time though - February is the next one, I believe]. I can't quite believe we used to suffer international breaks in the Championship too, as the games seemed to come thick and fast.

They say PL players play too much football. Well if that's the case then Championship and Lge One/Two players must play enormous amounts with their 46 game league and various cups to contend with. Plus, they do it with much smaller squads, so they're playing all the bloody time. Yes SOME PL players play a lot of football. Many just play 38 league plus a couple of cup games, if they are ever present. And that's a rare thing these days, with squad rotation. I say make the PL bigger and at get us back to at least 42 league games a season, like it used to be in the top division.

More teams in the top flight would be a great idea. It's where players earn the most money so they should be playing more often. It would never happen though not all the time the larger teams get there way on everything premier league related.

Problem is, there's not a great deal of strength in depth I feel. This can be seen by the fact that Liverpool are consistently bottom of the table (well, it's only the second season) and they were the only side not from the Premier League (National Division). Likewise in the now reformed Premier League, it looks like Sunderland are most likely a class above everyone else, having won the league last season and top this season, having not lost once. Although I've not see them play so I can't really say.

But hopefully teams will become stronger and there'll be greater strength in depth.

We are well aware of the little stunt you're pulling here PL. Well I am anyway. :)

On the subject of a larger PL, I think there's a very good argument for it. More games, more revenue. Yes, a bigger dead area in the middle of the division, but tell that to the lower league tables. No dead areas there.

Its been even duller than I feared. Just something about the whole ethos and greed and media driven frenzies that pour out of every Premiership oriface, that makes me feel dirty to be a part of it.

It's not the messiah of football. It's not even a naughty boy. It's just unsatisfying and has me yearning for a midweek league 1 game against Brentford.

Never thought it would come to missing a midweek game against brentford but I gotta agree I do miss regular football. Might have to get in to supporting Crawley a bit more as they are my only proper West Sussex team.

Being serious, I do think expanding the Premier League would be a good idea. I think a lot, if not most, upper Championship teams could cope in the Premier League. Sure you and Reading are both in the relegation zone, but it's not like either of you have been totally outclassed (Arsenal game aside) and usually at least one promoted team does well.

I'm sure we would enjoy the PL more if we were winning, but the gaps between games is so big and with the international breaks it's like the season has scarcely started. I think Cortese's plan of getting into Europe is a good one as we would get a lot more games<whistle>

Agreed it does seem a bit dull at times. On the other hand, let's face it we will have short memories, if we go down we will spend the whole of next season willing the team back to the Prem again!

But, if you get in the Europa League, will you do the standard thing of not giving it a damn, as it's not the Champions League?

Oh, we won't be in the Europa League...isn't that for teams not in the top 4?

We may end being in the Europa League, due to our nampy pampy winning of the Fair Play league.

Seeing how Saints don't bother with this tackling malarky anymore, we'll bloody walk the Fair Play League!

That's right. Lose a few games and we all suddenly don't want to play in the premier league ;)

I do think the amount of days between games is quite painful at times but mainly because we are losing so you're always going to be that bit more anxious to get to the next game and try and get a win.

Love it or hate it, were in the best league in the world and I'm proud to say that I'm from Premier League Southampton !
