Listening to XTC just now. Great band and very under rated in my opinion. Senses Working Overtime is an absolute classic, along with Dear God and The Mayor Of Simpleton. Any others that you peeps can think of?
was when they officially announced to the world they had become ****e
Public Image Ltd were very underrated and changed the musical landscape with what they were doing. FACT.
love xtc!! good shout. the pixies, squeeze, cocteu twins, the cure. oh,and bigaudiodynamite.saw them at the barrowland 25? year ago and stood 10 feet from mick jones.
Depends what you mean by underrated ER. XTX and The Pixies had huge critical acclaim at the time. Some of the bands mentioned on this thread like Squeeze and The Cure had screeds of hits. In fact you can't really say the Cure were underrated as they had both commercial and critical acclaim. Rogue mentions PIL, but I always thought they were a poor man's Can. Orange Juices rip it up and start again was a rip off of Joe Walsh's riff on Life's been good to me. I knew one of them and he told me that. After all that I will go for The Psychedelic Furs, Buffalo Springfield and The Fall.
The Clientele, have been going since the 90's and I still don't know anyone else who has heard of them. The Replacements have a massive cult following right now but never got the widespread acclaim and success they deserved while they were still together. Also The Modern Lovers aren't generally given the credit the deserve for the birth of Punk and Alternative in general.
