The momentum to get rid of Hughes appears to be gathering some speed. Apart from Harry Redknapp, how many of you have given a second thought to what our choices are if we donât get Harry? â Not saying he is the answer. Alan Curbishley, Ian Holloway, Mick McCarthy, Raphael Benitez, etc. Are any of these really any better than Hughes? The common theme that people IN the game comment on is how good Hughesâ coaching staff are â Bowen, Niedzwiecki, Hitchcock. If we sack Hughes all of these will go, at considerable expense, and we will end up with Harryâs gang of Bond, Jordan & co. Hughes has brought some long overdue structure to the club with the recruitment of Mike Rigg from Man City, Glyn Hodges and host of scouting and development staff. Before you say it, I know he now has the money to do these sorts of things, but can you honestly say that a Warnock or a Holloway type manager would have the foresight for this type of thing or have the standing in the game to attract them in the first place? I have been very critical of some of Hughesâ team selection this season (not playing Hoilett etc) but I think he will get things right, providing he can select from a fit squad and keep 11 men on the pitch. People have also slated some of his transfer dealings. Cast your mind back to August, you, like me were awaiting the âbigâ signings now that TF was in full charge. Would we have been happy with Hughes signing Championship playersâ¦.? NO. Apart from who we did buy, who really was available with Premiership quality and experience? If you were at the Emirates yesterday you will know we deserved at least a draw (Alan Hansen agrees) Yes we didnât ping the ball around or create a loads of chances, but we were playing a Champions League team on their home ground in front of 60,000 people. You canât blame Hughes from Mbia, and without that moment of madness we may have earned a well-deserved point. Apart from possibly Mackie over SWP what team would you have played? Faurlin for SWP some say â really, in that formation? I know I will get slated for this post, but look at our fixtures in November and December, there are games we can and will win and I think these will be the most important 2 months of our season. Do we really want to go into this period with a new manager not knowing his best team and trying to get the team to play to his style of football? If youâre not sure, look at our 4 games in January. U R's
Not at all, I'm not panicking in the slightest. Winnable games start now. The game is a league and we are far from cut adrift. We have games against us those around us coming up. The charge starts soon, 14th minimum by season end. Defensive injuries and reds don't help but we'll be good!
Ahhh. A nice cup of freshly brewed French Vanilla coffee a slice of toast with blueberry compote and a dose of reality. Thanks Surrey, just what I needed!! I agree mate!!!
I agree that we deserved a point yesterday, and that in no way is MH responsible for the sending off. But the Faurlin point is misplaced: I don't think people, myself included were claiming that Faurlin should play instead of SWP in that formation, but rather with 3 CM with, for instance Hoilett or Taarabt playing from the right instead.
I like your post but can't agree. We are already going into this period with a guy who doesn't know his best team or how to play them! He has the worst record i can remember for a qpr manager. The fact we have this so called great coaching team worries me mire as we are yet to see anything great from them. Tony has put all his eggs in one basket with Hughes and his staff and will not get sacked for that reason. We have games we can win??? What makes you think that based on the season to date??? Remember we have to play all these 9 teams again and if we followed suit that would be 6 points at the half way mark!! Remember when we got hulse and he wasn't up to scratch so we needed a new striker, well what's the difference with a manager who doesn't deliver despite his public promises??? Harry redknapp would be my choice as he keeps things simple, knows the league and can motivate players to play. After all, football is a simple game!
The days of a best team are gone! It's a squad game and you will vary it depending on the opposition strengths. Nobody on here can agree on our best side and then you throw in injuries too. In relation to form look at other teams. Sunderland and stoke have 2 wins between them in 30 games! Were significantly better than that! The table and teams will unravel as we play those around us. Our time is coming, don't panic!!
I wish i had your optimism mate and im honestly glad some share it with you! Remember when Neil had to go cos we were 17th?
Difference with NW was we were in absolute free fall. I think we have seen gradual improvement against some very good sides with some bad luck and injuries. The crucial run starts next week. I can't wait for next week, bang in a couple if goals at a rocking Loftus road and were off and running!
We may have been in freefall but he had alot more points on the board with a much weaker team. We seem to be in freefall yet again but with a worse points tally.
Nice words Surrey but be honest here, how could we be doing any worse if we ditched Hughes?? Never taken us higher than 17th Never won away 3 points from 9 games Worst discipline in the league I'm all for being positive but what are you basing this 'stick with Hughes we'll be ok' strategy? All I'm seeing is defeat, few goals, red cards and humiliation Point me in the right direction as I must be missing something??
I'm no advocate of changing Managers after a couple of dodgy results, but where do we go from here? We now have played out a quarter of the season, and without stating the bleeding obvious, we have 3 points, multiply that by 4 and you have 12 points for the season! Before I get bombarded with abuse for that comment, I don't expect us to pick up so few points from the remaining 75% of fixtures, but it does put into perspective. No we're not cut adrift yet, but it won't be long before we are if we continue in the same vain. What formation should we play with what combination of players? I just read that we don't have much choice with the players we have at our disposal, so the question has to be, has Hughes signed the right players? For the last year at least we've all been saying that we need central defenders, and how many did we sign? One, Nelsen! No disrespect to him as he's played well, but he alone is not enough. Mbia, I believe was signed as a defensive midfielder so I don't include him. Personally, I don't care who is Manager, Hughes or anyone else, I just want points on the board and a decent style of football. How long since an away win? Stoke when Warnock was still in charge! OK, you are all Fernandez for the day, what do you do next?
Most on here and those around me at the game yesterday seem to agree that Faurlin should have been on the pitch and the awful SWP should not!! OBVIOUSLY not on the right in THAT formation. Hughes gets his tactics wrong far too often, rarely changes things when they're not working and is unbelievable stubborn over his continued selection of SWP. You ask what team would I have played? I have posted it so many times on other threads that I won't bother again, but suffice to say, we needed 3 in the centre of midfield against their very good midfield. I could see it, all those around me yesterday could see it and even my 13 year old could see it. To play 4-4-2 against a midfield 3 of Wilshire, Arteta and Corzola shows exactly why Hughes will get us relegated!!
Swallow my pride and sell my share to the mittals. Admit that I'm a novice and sports team ownership is not for me. In all seriousness, give MH an ultimatum. 7 points from the next 3 games. Keep him on his toes. His constant support on twitter has given MH a licence to do whatever he likes, which is ridiculous given his record.
Why is listing a bunch of crap managers (RB excepted) a reason not to sack a manager. Should we keep SWP because theres a pub footballer out there whos worse than him?
Don't think anybody will slate you because you are being absolutely realistic and are talking sense. Even for those who have always wanted Hughes out from day one it is obvious that there are reasons why we have not done as well as we hoped irrespective of the manager. It is also right to say that we have only played badly in two games this season, our luck continues to be poor and the players indicipline continues to cost us very dearly. Let's see where we are at the end of November. Clearly changes do have to be made but for me it's more a case of attitude, tactics and the starting eleven being right. We showed signs of plugging the gaps at the heart of our defence. Now we need to concentrate this week on giving players the courage to have a shot. Players who lack the guts to do so should not be playing for us until they remember that the aim of the game is to put a spherical leather object between the sticks and make the net bulge. That means players with three parts to their name
