http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/james-ward-prowse-vows-to-stay-off-the-booze-1403373 Good article, just about to watch the SaintsPlayer stuff but JWP always comes across very articulate and grounded. DTLW
Love the way they refer to James as our next big sale rather than our next star...seems they cannot imagine us keeping players. Glad he comes over as sensible...so many promising players never achieve their full potential because they prefer to just sail along taking the money. Be the best you can be, Prowsie. I'm proud that we turn out decent people as well as good players...suspect they are soon shown the door if they don't take it seriously.
I think the trend for young players to move onto big teams quickly might have slowed, with players preferring to play rather than sit on the bench. You just have to look at some of the extremly talented players arsenal have sold who have floundered: reyes, flamini, adebayor (he'll probably score today though) etc. I am a bit more sceptical on JWP as I think he might be an early bloomer. He is technically very tidy, makes few errors, hasn't conceded a foul yet, but you need more than that to be a top class player. Don't get me wrong I expect him to play for england someday but I would be surprised if he ever turns into a big game match winner like Ramirez or Lambert. Probably become a better version of Davis.
A lot of people have him listed as having the potential to be a blonde Scholes - perhaps minus the 30 yarders. Note that I'm not saying he'll be as good as Scholes because Scholes was (actually, still is) incredible, I'm just talking potential.
JWP can tackle! For me, JWP is more like someone like Xavi who gets about and presses high, but tends to dictate from deeper and only very occasionally makes forays into the box.
I was expecting to see something along those lines when I saw the thread title. Thought 'oh. Not again'.
To be honest, either would be great. I have to say, when I first saw him play, my first thought was that he reminded me of Scholes.
