Now, I like Mackie a lot. Always gives 100% for the team and won't give up. A number of players could learn from him. However it's interesting the allowance this creates for him. He's a bit of a one trick pony and does he always think?
His run at the end yesterday was terrific. But look again, I think he got so excited he tried to hammer it and put it straight at the keeper. All he had to do was slide it inside the near post for a simple goal. If that had been SWP he'd have been slaughtered on here!
Good solid player, and great for the bench, but in my view not the messiah that some see him as.

Yes, I was disappointed that he decided to blast it in the keeper, should have place it in the corner. Would be a wonder goal. But football isn't just running, there's some decision making and that separate best from the rest.

I love Mackie for his effort (Adel could be world class if had the same), but Mackie does remind me of an out of control speedboat - you have no idea where it's going or where it's going to end up.

As someone said for DI Maria from Real Madrid, his legs are just too fast for his head.

Not hard to like Mackie for his effort, drive and determination. He is, as they say, "what it says on the tin".
Always a good options player and was just what we were crying out for yesterday to chase, harry and prepared to run at people; was the obvious replacement for SWP.

Don't disagree with you SW but he really should have just slotted it home in the corner!

Did more in 10 mins than SWP did in the previous 80. Should have been given longer, the game was crying out for him, but could Hughes see it? #HICC

Really? Have a look again. It's a brilliant run and so much so I think he's been caught up in it and just hit it as hard as he can. All he had to do was touch it inside the near post. Momentum he had keeper had no chance hence why he just stood his ground trying to be as big as he could.

SWP who he replaced is a finishing machine. Proven by all the goals he's scored over the past few years.
Swp scores Vital winners and goals in vital games. Doesn't he??

Northolt has pointed it out - Mackie should have come on and given at least 30 mins. SWP did very little the whole game

In response to a couple of posts, the thread is not about SWP being better than Mackie or even comparing them. I like Mackie and love his work rate. I'm pointing out his limitations. The only reference to SWP was to highlight that if by some miracle he had got himself into that position I think he'd have been crucified on here for missing it!

Thought the keeper spread himself well personally but it seems ridiculous we're having a go at him when he single handedly did more in the game than any other player bar Cesar. Wouldn't start him against Reading as Id put Faurlin back in and play the 4-3-3 but he should be first change for either Tarbs or Hoilett.

Those who say he's not technically good enough blah blah just remember how good he was last year and that won't have changed. He's a simple yet effective player much like Helguson was and how we are missing him at the moment.
