QPR boss slams refereeâs âcock and bull storyâ By Derek Osafo | Saturday, October 27, 2012 QPR manager Mark Hughes was scathing in his criticism of the referee after Stephen M'Bia was sent off for kicking out at Thomas Vermaelen in the 1-0 loss at Arsenal. MâBia was fouled by the Gunners defender and was awarded a free-kick but he retaliated and lashed out at the Belgian defender and as a result was shown a straight red card. But Hughes felt strongly that his player was harshly dealt with by the official. âWeâre disappointed because the linesman had already given the foul to us,â the QPR boss told talkSPORT. âStefan has taken a swing but there was no contact but Vermaelen has made a meal of it and the referee warranted that it was a straight red.â Hughes felt that the sending off on 80 minutes was the defining point of the match as the scores were level. âAt that point I was totally comfortable with the way the game was going. We were in control and I had made substitutions with a view to go and win the game. The sending off put us on the back foot but even then our response to adversity was absolutely fantastic. Each one of the players strove to get us back on terms." Hughes also believed that Arsenalâs winner after 84 minutes scored by Mikel Arteta should not have been allowed. âThe goal is ridiculous as Arteta was offside twice in the build-up. I have had some cock and bull story from the referee talking about Ryan Nelsen going off the pitch so that deemed everybody onside and I have no idea what he is talking about,â stated the QPR manager. Hughes is loosing his cool with remarks like that, ok it was offside but thats football. As for Mbia if i was his team mate id kick him in the cock n balls!
Hes reminding me of Warnock, blaming anyone and everyone but himself. I will wake up every morning hoping I switch on my comp and read that hes got the sack.
I wasn't at the Emirates and saw onluy repays but I thought contact was made with Thomas Vermaelen. If I'm wrong I'll balme the poor view I had in in the replay Oh, and the goal was offside - twice over. Ours didn't count. Ya kinda hafta wonder if it made any difference that it was at the Emirates
There was no contact at all, it was still a red card for intent. Its stupid to get 3 games for "violent conduct" when it clearly wasnt violent. Violent conduct would be something that results in a broken nose or bleeding, not something like that, Cisses chin grab or Bartons "headbutt" last year.
We were in control?! I wasn't at the game but, despite how disceptive MOTD highlights can be, I find that hard to believe when we had 30% possession.
We were negative against an out of sorts side and paid the price. Making excuses would be a waste of everyone's time. We have quality players, as MH declares but what's the point if we don't have a real go?
And how is it that when other teams go down to 10 men they become resilient, difficult to break down and sometimes even win but when it happens to us, we're guaranteed to fall apart and concede?? Is it attitude? Are we not in the right shape mentally?
We need someone to come in and have the 'warnock effect'.I think its as much about someone who can make the players play for him, motivate and give them some confidence.I know ive said it before and he may not be the best tactition, but I just think Harry would be brilliant for our club and players. I just cant see TF forking out 15+Mill to get shot of MH.
No, it's simply that our offside was a much easier job to determine and theirs was too difficult for the poor linesman to see.
I wouldn't rely on MOTD highlights mate! To be honest we weren't in control but we were looking fine for a point and the sending off was instrumental as it gave them the initiative. Silly was to get sent off when you have already won a free kick.
I couldn't tell from the video which players were there, so just giving the linesman the benefit of the doubt about Nelson being off the pitch. Technically if a defender goes behind the goal line in the run of play he does play everyone onside. But that's providing there's still a 2nd player goal side as well (usually the keeper is one of the two players needed so it gets forgotten). Since Arteta came from the goal line he was behind everyone on the pitch, so even if Nelson was behind the goal line out of shot, who are they saying was the second player needed to make it onside? Just because he was crap at it doesn't stop it being violent conduct.
If we were actually capable of scoring a goal or two of our own these decisions wouldn't have such devastating consequences!
Thamks for your input on the offside......However, Nelsen was near the 6 yard line and Arteta was a good two yards offside. Shocking miss from the linesman!!
It was more a pop at the ref's story, because the linesman would have needed to see two players so even if he was right about Nelson it was still offside.
Till Sunday Col.... The pivotable game of the season... But I will stick with the fact....defensive mistakes are so costly because we cannot score goals....His major mistake for me...is not all these formation changes you boys chat about...It is selling a proven goalscorer like Helgar. (I do think we would have been in a different position if Johnson had remained uninjured also)
