Ok I'll ignore the abuse; why are you sick of the coverage? And how do you know it's out of proportion? Are you a black footballer? The reason I'm sick of these "let's all stop talking about it" arguments is that they contribute nothing to a solution. You're either denying it's a problem or denying the victims the chance to better their lot.
No abuse intended, just pointing out an alternative viewpoint to yours. You might be sick of all sorts of things but it doesnt mean that others are. Many of us are also sick of hearing/reading about this issue. No i am not a black footballer but i know and work with black people and most of them also get fed up with the coverage of this and the actions/words of some of the high profile black footballers. Anyway thats enough on this subject on this thread as far as i am concerned.
Yeah I'm aware there is an alternative viewpoint. I've been participating in this thread for all 10 pages of it, and on every page someone brings up exactly the alternative viewpoint you have. And none of them has yet convinced me that it's a viewpoint that can be held without tacitly endorsing racism. You just cannot be anti-racism and content with the current situation. This is the subject of the thread if you didn't want to talk about it then you probably shouldn't have, you know, talked about it.
Racism is no where near as bad as it used to be 30-40 years ago in the UK. Fruit is not thrown onto the pitch anymore and there are no monkey chanting in stadiums, never, I've never seen it since I've been watching football, but I have seen so much racism in football in other parts of the World, namely, Spain, Serbia and Croatia etc-What has been done in these countries? Nothing-0. Let's look at what has been done in England over the past 30-40 years? So, so much. There is very little racism in english football-FACT. How many cases involving racism were there in the UK before the JT/ Ferdinand & Suaréz/ Evra case? Very, very few. Black or White, we're all human and we all deserve to live in a world without discrimination and prejudice.
Not content but not overly bothered either. The extent of media coverage is disproportional to the gravity of the current situation and the attitude of the general public towards it.
Get bothered. It's far more important than this Jimmy Savile crap, and the topless photos of Kate Middleton that the Mirror appear to still be banging on about. Oh, and let's find out what the top story in The Sun is right now..."Cheating Amir Khan's two girl romp". This is what the general public are interested in. Is this stuff more important? Too much coverage on racism? I call bullshit on that one.
I totally agree about the need to fight racism, but I think you got carried away if you think that is more important than fighting *****philia. The Saville case reveals that he (and others) have been protected by the system. Something we have all been aware of from various weird judgements in court. The young (of all races) deserve protection.
Yeah this isn't a fight against *****philia. At worst, we're talking about a few incidences of one man being protected by his celebrity status. It's a fight against dodgy policing in the 60s and 70s, and it's only in the news so much because of the public's interest in it.
