Red Bull are sitting ducks on the straight. They are 22nd and 23rd in the speed trap despite the extra kph they gain from DDRS. Clearly they've gone for a much higher downforce set-up in the hope they don't get challenged in the race. Hamilton was 7kph faster in qualifying, which will become 10+ kph tomorrow so if he gets a good start he's got a decent chance of overtaking Vettel on the first lap.

In the high speed corners in Korea (sector two) Red Bull were slightly behind McLaren and only a tenth ahead of Ferrari, so running a much higher downforce set-up in India has enabled them to be fastest in the second and third sectors. But without DDRS they'll lose a lot of time in the first sector, and could be in trouble. If you take two tenths away from Red Bull (DDRS effect), McLaren would have the fastest car, with Ferrari just over a tenth behind Red Bull.

    Best sector times from qualifing:
    Red Bull - 1:25.179
    McLaren - 1:25.252 (+0.073)
    Ferrari - 1:25.501 (+0.322)

Here's where I think they'll be in terms of race pace (not result):

    1. Hamilton
    2. Button +0.115
    3. Vettel +0.127
    4. Alonso +0.249
    5. Massa +0.333
    6. Webber +0.467

I'm assuming the best sector times for each car in qualifying (taking two tenths from Red Bull) is representative of the gap between Alonso, Hamilton and Vettel. For Webber I've used his average gap to Vettel in the race simulations on Friday (0.34). For Button and Massa I've used their qualifying performances vs their teammates, as Button only did three high fuel laps on Friday and Massa did none.

They will pull away faster than McLaren at the start as their top speed is lower, the heavy fuel will go into RBR's favour since it will take Lewis longer to reach top speed down that straight than Seb and Mark so momentum will be with them until it hits the limit.

RBR's great traction out of the corners should give a decent enough gap before the straight and Mark will likely defend against Lewis and Button at the start while Seb should be left unchallenged going into turn 1.

It will likely be a repeat of 2011, Webber should lose out, Seb gets away.

The downforce levels for RBR will also make sure their tyres last longer than McLaren's so even if he does get ahead I expect both RBR's to close in fast after a few laps before the first pitstop.

No clue why you think it will be any different to 2011. Take a look here and compare: http://www.formula1.com/results/season/2011/863/6938/speed_trap.html

I should probably hold my hands up and come clean. I would like to confirm that I am not in fact the bloke almost beat Senna in F3. I am however a former Ms. World. :p

If Webber makes that much of a difference then, he has nobody to blame but himself for not being WDC.

Better to take that attitude than just throwing the towel in. :)

Still sounds pretty pathetic imo. When Seb would say such thing... omdg, world would collapse i guess. I am glad anyways that we will never hear such crap from Seb.

I'm not sure what attitude you mean. If the roles were reversed I'd hope that Vettel would be saying similar.

the full quote is: "Not at all. I think it is more challenging for us now, but I remain 100 per cent confident that we will fight for this championship, and we will win it."

I think I'm missing your point on attitude.

Yeah.. sorry about that.. not sure where I pulled the attitude part from. Must have been crossing posts or something. :p

I think you're focusing on only one part of the quote when what it seems he's saying is that he's confident they can fight for and win the title, which he should be.. because if he wasn't he may as well pack up and go home now. :)

It looks like Vettel has 3 in the bag right now, but we've seen how bad luck can strike out of nowhere this year so he's clearly in with a shout and should believe that they can win.

It's my opinion that Alonso thinks the sun shines out of his own arse, I find him a terribly arrogant and obnoxious person who dismisses anyone elses achievements other than his own.

It won't be any different but many people just wish it would be ;) Or that there was at least the chance of a recognisable race.

As for Alonso's fighting talk, I don't think it's weird, I think it's quite normal really. If Lewis or Jenson said it, now that would be weird!

Hehe, pretty harsh words, i guess all F1 drivers have huge egos, that wouldn't be a problem. But the total lack of down-to-earthness makes Alonso (and sometimes others *wink*) look pathetic.

If they are able to one-stop without getting into too much troubles not impossible i'd guess.

6pts behind... he should clearly give up and make no mention of the title ever again.

He can talk as much as he wants, no problem at all, i am just wondering what's going on inside of his head sometimes.
