The way he said was stupid but his general point about that was not wrong, was it? He said players that we will try and buy could not give a **** about the FA and League Cup and only care about CL football. Also, said that many managers in the League also feel the same. Look at the way Arry treated cup competitions when he was at Spurs. It's a sad state of affairs, but the truth is fourth is better and more important than either the FA or League cup with the way football is right now.
Players you buy only want to play in the CL and don't give a **** about other trophies? Then surely he's buying the wrong type of player. Fabregas, RVP, Henry, Cliche, Toure, Nasri etc. were all guaranteed CL football but still left...because you were not winning trophies. And God knows your fans are sick of not winning a trophy. Yes, because winning the odd League or FA Cup would have kept those. I said do not give **** about the FA or League cup. Henry left to win the CL, Cesc left to join the best club in the world and his boyhood club and even said recently that had Barca not come in for him he would have stayed at Arsenal forever.. Toure and Clichy were no longer wanted. Only RVP and Nasri you could argue left because of the trophy less run and even they probably wanted to compete for bigger trophies and Nasri has already won the league. In the current climate, I have no doubts that qualifying for the CL is more important than winning either the League or FA Cup. Look at Liverpool last season, Daglish won the League cup and got to the final of the FA Cup and their owners still got rid of him.
That's cos CL has ruined football. I have no idea where spurs came in the league in 1981 ... but I do know we won the FA Cup...the same is true of 82 etc. When we won the Carling Cup in 08 I took my 2 daughters (then 10 and 5 yrs old) to the lane to have their photo taken with the trophy...but apparently its just a mickey mouse cup that means nothing. I have gooner mates who have no idea where they came in the league in 93 - but they remember winning both cups that year. And re your players leaving...once players have **** loads of money they want trophies...do you seriously think all those players would have left if you were winning the FA cup or League cup on a regular basis as well as coming 4th?
