Claire Balding is an excellent link and played to the uninitiated in her role on BBC..the lowest common denominator so to speak..(Willie Carson mainly!)

I'm sure she'll have more latitude on C4 regarding racing matters....Oddy fancies her which is good enough in my book.

Petito doth protest too much as well...big crush there also I think <whistle>

ha! i didn't mean misty films of claire balding! far be it for me to encroach on oddy's territory. and anyway, you calling me a thespian? :emoticon-0102-bigsm

she's a decent presenter i agree, it's the way the programmes have to show misty gallops and they're a bit short on facts sometimes. i'll make a special effort to watch C4 racing now, just to see if it's better than i remember.

i promise, claire balding doesn't send me to the fridge. well, not usually. have i got away with that? :emoticon-0107-sweat

There'll be more latitude in the arse department that's for sure - I'm sure hers is bigger than mine (and that's saying something)

Dex she is a 10-pinter, minimum.

My ‘mole in the media’ advises that Clare Balding will from January present the ‘Radio 2 Breakfast show’ on a Sunday morning whilst she has also just been handed the job of presenting a prime time new Saturday night quiz on BBC1 which will air sometime in 2013. If she does well at these gigs you really do have to wonder how long she will stick with presenting the old gee-gees as her earnings, exposure and associated spin-offs in the general media would be far, far greater.

I’ve given my views on C4’s new team several times and I think it poor that Alastair Down, John McCririck, Derek ‘Thommo’ Thompson, Mike Cattermole and especially John Francome are going. They bring far more to the table (in terms of opinions and knowledge) than the likes of Clare Balding, Richie Persad, Nick Luck and the Plunkett mare. At least the lovely Ems is being retained but probably in a reduced role unfortunately.

As for Mick Fitzgerald...dear oh dear. He’s got the presenting style and personality of a zombie and manages to annoy me everytime he appears on the old magic tellybox. Who can forget his famous lines on Grand National day which had me screaming at the screen. ‘Ah now Nicky Henderson actually has a poor record in the Grand National’. ‘Well that wouldn’t have been the case had you not fallen off Fiddling the Facts’, hollered I. ‘Ah now mares actually have a poor record in the Grand National’, he said not 60 seconds later. ‘Well that wouldn’t have been the case had you not fallen off Fiddling the Facts’, shouted I for a second time.

I'm going to take a general view and as far as I can see they are replacing all the "characters" which is a real shame.

I think the most noticeable difference will be at the Cheltenham festival - Alastair Down or Rishi Persad. Hmmm....

Just looking at what some of the posters on the Beeb website have to say about the C4 changes and this one made me laugh, well, laugh at the stupidity of it...

I don't see why channel 4 should have anything to do with a "sport" that's only reason for existence is to allow violence towards animals and gambling!

If they do it "for the sport" why don't they ever have heats?

Horse Racing has always been barbaric, and should go the way of the DODO.

    God almighty, clueless or what...!!!

Have heard JM on Fivelive and LCB this afternoon; what has happened to the Thatcher loving and free enterprise proponent. He sounded like an employee rights loving 'leftie'. How the 'mighty' have fallen. Schadenfreude at its best!!
I wonder if he has contributed to a pension during his 'fat' years or will he be required to live on 'socialist' monies for his remaining years. Will never forgive him for his ridiculous and unsympathetic views on the people of Liverpool (should be thankful that racegoers visit Aintree and piss in the resident's gardens) and individuals who have gambling problems which he expressed in an 'open-ended' Channel 4 discussion programme many years ago.

Glad Mc and thommo are gone. Shame about Francome and the Cat. Could take or leave Alistair Down

Of the newbies, I agree with others re Rishi as he's bloody awful. If they must have soemone form an ethnic minority canlt we have Princess haya? That would get me out of bed on a saturday morning!

I can vouch for Gina, she's lovely.

Whether you old dinosaur's :)emoticon-0109-kiss:) like it or not, it is only right that there is a decent % of female representation on the team. You can't argue with their credentials either:

Clare - grew up in a racing yard, rode as an amateur
Alice - horsey through and through, married to Olympic medal winning eventer William Fox-Pitt
Emma - same as Clare (though I admit I'm not her biggest fan)
Tanya - at least she is knowledgable about one aspect of racing

I'm a big fan of Clare's, I know her mother through my job (lovely, lovely lady) and have met her father on several occasions (dirty old man tried to crack on to me!).

Sounds a bit harsh PN. Maybe he's just got good taste and couldn't resist. Unless you mean "creepy" dirty.
