What a nice evening I have had. Went to Le Centre a bar in one of the villages not too far away, and one that the gendarmes don't know exists. A visit there can be very quiet, but tonight it was humming. An equal number of French and English and I was in the middle translating for both sides. My French is rubbish as far as I am concerned, someone once told me that I spoke like a teenager. It didn't matter as my brain was lubricated, and I find that when you don't have to think about speaking correctly, things come out that you didn't know you knew. The dislike that is supposed to exist between the two nations is a myth when you get people together who are intent on having a good gossip. A coach driver from France and a business man from Nottingham who are worlds apart and cannot communicate with language were just happy to hear about taking tourists around Paris or taking clients to events at the Olympics.
Afternoon all. A lot happening in sunny Queretaro, my boss, god bless her has uped the anti and it is all systems go until December hols. CAn't help having a peak at the football though, this quote from BBC and today's Europa League games made me chukkle; James Mold on Twitter: "Fairly sure Obertan and Downing scoring within a few minutes of each other is a sign of the apocalypse." HASTA PRONTITO AMIGOS !!
Right, this is the first night in a week that I have been able to get an early night so I am going to make the most of it. Good night all.
Your comments on the quality of your French,OFH, reminded me of a simlilar experience I had once. Many years ago I taught English in Alexandria, Egypt. I had to learn some Arabic in order to talk to shop keepers etc. For some reason I attended an official function at the British embassy in Cairo and got talking to an educated Egyptian. I decided to try out my Arabic and he burst out laughing. On asking him if my Arabic was so bad he said that my accent and grammar made me sound as if I had been brought up in the slums of Alex. It wasn't the Arabic he expected to hear at an embassy function.

Morning all, damp and grey in rural France this morning, but quite mild. Have a trip this afternoon to collect timber for some new shutters at the back of the house. With the clocks going back this weekend we will have to start thinking about winter and shutters do have quite good insulating properties. As you help to cut down on power usage you can set the cost off against tax. Coffee welcome ak, you must drink loads of it to keep warm.
Thanks for asking BB - I'm afraid the news was bad - the pills have stopped working so the cancer is growing again so Mrs L had to stop taking them immediately to clear her system. We are getting another appointment at the Royal Marsden a week on Tuesday to arrange the next step - there is another drug for this rare type of cancer which they will try before they give up. Feeling very depressed but crossing fingers
Sorry to hear that, Leo. It's difficult to live with the knowledge the cancer is still at work. I hope the Marsden comes up with something positive and that you both can manage to focus on some pleasant things from time to time.
Yes Leo, very discouraging at present, but we will keep our fingers crossed that the new treatment will have positive results. Hope it helps to know that there many of us on here who keep you both in our thoughts.
That's awful news Leo - life can be very cruel at times and I can only imagine how down you must both be feeling at the moment. I'm not a religious person by any stretch of the imagination, but will be more than happy to pray that the new treatment is successful.
Oh Leo I am sorry to hear that. I truly hope that the new drug give the cancer a damn good kicking!! I follow BB's sentiments, not a religious person but will pray that I hear good news from you some time soon. All the best to you both.
