The use of multiple man traps combined with ferocious dogs and a moat full of piranha is quite appealing.

The year before last I put up a notice by our gate saying:

"The residents of this dwelling fail to see the relevance of Haloween in a modern sophisticated society and therefore will not respond to Trick or Treat callers."

We had 17 gangs of kids bang on the door.

Last year I put up a notice right by the gate saying:

"**** off jokers or you're dead meat."

    We had an undisturbed evening.

The very lovely Mrs Godders:emoticon-0115-inlov couldn't understand why we had no callers and was disappointed as she had spent £20 on sweets for the little brats.

I just played dumb and removed the sign after she had gone up to bed.

No. I kept them for the carol singers.

One toffee for each singer after they had sung all the verses of "Once in Royal David's City". I had sheets printed for them as none knew the words and expected to be rewarded for "We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year" mumbled twice.

The teachers at Cantell were not very sympathetic when I went up to the school and complained that their children didn't know a single carol right the way through.

Shouldn't that be the other way around StG..? I mean, the 5th of November is definitely AFTER the 31st of October, on my calendar. :)

Off to work shortly [crikey it's nearly 3pm] as I just had to stay in to collect my XTC Skylarking LP from the postie [this is an update for those who might be interested]. It turns out to be in the spankiest of spanking condition throughout. It has just sat in someone's collection since 1986 and was probably hardly ever played. There is zero creasing or chafe on the covers. In fact, I have bought new vinyl over the years that has been in worse nick. Plus, this is an original non-Dear God edition [which is why it is almost certainly 1986 and no later], ie, it has the original line up of tracks including Mermaid Smiled, which probably makes it worth about £60 or thereabouts. Possibly more. I paid £16. Of course, it'll never leave me, so it is worth nothing and everything at the same time. Nice.

I'm afraid I'm too young to have any real clue who or what you're on about but congratulations nonetheless. My initial thought when I skimmed your first post earlier was that you'd purchased some kind of remote controlled plane or some such haha.

Just watched Skyfall. What a fantastic film. It really has done the 50th anniversary of James Bond justice.

If you get the chance Mikey you should look XTC up. They are one excellent band!

Sadly I'm not too young to understand. To me XTC were one of the few rays of sunshine in that most barren of musical decades the 1980's. One of the best things to come out of Swindon since the Great Western Railway was built. Sounds like a cracking bit of purchasing TSS!

When I put my head to it I realised that XTC were a band name that I recognise, gave them a little google and Wikipedia informed me they were a great critical success but not so much commercially, so that made me feel slightly better about not being very familiar with them. I'll probably download some of their stuff in a bit and give it a listen, although I'm not usually that in to New Wave style music, which is what they seem to be categorised as.
