Not really, the feeling is still there while discussion is about the replacement. The managers must be pretty stupid if they are looking at opinion boards to see what people think about them. If I were a footballer I'd stay well clear unless I was extremely confident about myself. I do wonder sometimes if any of the players look at these boards. It would be fantastic if someone outed themselves on here.
These are the latest odds I've seen as to who Ipswich's next manager could be. You're not a Liberal voter by any chance are you 1950 ? I've no sympathy with any football manager in the top two divisions who fails, even in the CCC the're probably paid more in a week than the average man gets in a year. Diddums indeed, PJ might just have to get a proper bloody job like most of us !
Dougie freedman at 10/1... That would be the shortest spell ever as a manager surely I think Coyle or Mick McCarthy would be best bet! Or they could hire a club legend, watch him fail big time and get relegated... Hire a new CEO and get battered 7-1 at home in the first game. Then get a up'n coming manager to take you to the prem within 2 year's. Like that would ever happen
Interesting line of thought. I have voted in every election since I was old enough to vote - in fact I think voting should be compulsory - but have never voted Liberal in my life. Just to give you a subtle clue to my political allegiance I have only ever voted Tory twice in my life and that was in 2 local elections where only Tory and LibDem candidates were standing. Can't see that what a person earns is a criteria for whether he should get personal abuse or not. Anybody who fails in his job should be open to constructive criticism no matter what he earns but not personal abuse. We will have to agree to differ on that point.
apparently his move has hit a stumbling block, so we contacted him. We could always go down the illegal approach road that some other club does and kidnap the Col Who manager?
you gotta do what you gotta do. being nicey nicey didn't do us any favours and it won't do you any in your predicament either whether freedman is the right man is another question. he was doing a good job at palace but the circumstances are different to those at ipswich. not sure it would be a good appointment myself but then i couldn't understand why bolton were after him - he's a perfect fit at palace. take him out of that and he's an unknown quantity
I still don't understand why he wants to leave Palace, unless the money is significantly better. He's got a really good thing going on there.
With some of the figures I have read regarding this guy leaving Palace, it is questionable as to whether or not he will actually leave. I have read somewhere that a cool £20 million is believed to his valuation however I have also seen £12 million. Either way, for a Championship striker it is totally ridiculous money being talked about.
Is this left field - or not? http://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/ipswich...849?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed
The thing you say about Freedman is true, but it's said about every single manager who has had success at their first club, some work out, some fail but I think that teams should take a risk on young managers. Maybe not a team in Ipswich's position, but a team like Bolton yes. They won't get relegated this year and probabaly not promoted so give him time build a team and get to know his players. That's my take on the Bolton thing anyway, Ipswich will probably have to go for someone experienced, after seeing them odds my money is on Tony Mowbray.
they really would be in trouble to go back to drunken george. don't get me wrong, he was a fantastic manager for them 15 years ago - so much so that i even tentatively questioned for him to be norwich manager after worthington was dismissed - but his time has been and gone. that's why i've been surprised with some of the names thrown up, the likes of curbishley et al. a fresh, modern, forward-thinking manager would be the best man to hire. it really doesn't look like that's what they'll be doing. i feel that will be a mistake for them.
agree with what you say about young managers (as my post above highlights). what i meant was that i was surprised bolton went for freedman. i see no connection between manager and club (which is no issue and sometimes helps) but mainly i felt bolton would target someone more experienced. they still have the parachute payments and a good squad in place - they should be challenging at the top of this division, so a mccarthy or davies would have made sense. they are taking a massive risk with freedman, assuming that one comes off. i just found it a surprising choice under the circumstances but i like dougie so hopefully he'll be a success if he goes to bolton.
I hope he does well too, I agree that they should have employed someone more experienced but than probably looked at the managers who have got teams out of the Championship in the last two years Brendan Rodgers, Paul Lambert, Brian McDermott, Nigel Adkins are 4 out of 6 who probably were risks when the respective clubs hired them.
where i would dispute that is that none of those managers took teams coming down back up. as i say, i hope he does well as he's a great guy but my gut feeling is that this might backfire for both club and manager. *edit. lambert obviously did but in respect of the championship, its a different kettle of fish puns
On route to hospital this morning, reading the "Metro" in which Clegg said, "Marcus and I have been discussing Paul's successor for the past FEW WEEKS! So much for the ME vote of confidence!
