YAHOO..! Finally..! I've managed to buy a mint vinyl copy of Skylarking by XTC. 26 years after it came out I've made up for my error of not buying it in 1986. Nobody is getting me down off this high until tomorrow, when I have to climb up on my house roof to plug a leak..! Fingers crossed it stays dry.

Plus, I've almost learned how to play Granchester Meadows [including most of its fiddly bits] by Pink Floyd, and it has only taken me about 6 hours of solid practice. At this rate I'm actually going to start saying Yes to people when they ask me if I can play the guitar [OK that's a stretch, but I've come on leaps and bounds since I've decided to abandon chords and started picking the notes]. God, I've loved that tune so much since I was about 12, and only thought to try learning it a couple of days ago, after picking up the guitar for the first time about 2½ years ago. I'm chuffed..!

 

Sounds like you've done pretty well in a short amount of time, and no one can question your commitment if you can sit down and practice for 6 solid hours! I've recently discovered King Crimson, so I'm trying to learn a bit of their stuff right now.

Actually, there's possibly a good track or two for me there. I Talk To The Wind and Epitaph, off The Court of the Crimson King album, might yield a few results this way too. I remember them well without having to listen to them, so they would be good to learn. Mind you, I've still got a way to go yet with early Pink Floyd.

 

Yeah that's the only album I've familiarised myself with so far. I'm working on "21st Century Schizoid Man" right now because I desperately want to be able to play those incredible riffs, and I guess I'll work my way through the album.

 

If I worked for that committee I would insist on it being called the Dub Go Com.

 

Paul Jewell has left Ipswich. Surprised he lasted until now.

I stand in awe of anyone who could play the riffs on "21st Century Schizoid Man", on either guitar or sax. I played that track to my daughter, who is doing a music degree and who has Grade 8 sax, and she was open-mouthed at the fast bit.

Having said that, "Islands" is my favourite Crimso album, followed by "Lizard", give them a listen sometime Joe.

I'm pretty impressed with TSS learning "Grantchester Meadows" as well. Perhaps I ought to give it a try!

 

In other news, I read that Ford's Transit factory might be about to close, making 500 people unemployed. Bit on era coming to an end there, if true.

 

I can get up to those insane runs after the sax solo. Learning those incredibly fast parts is going to take a long time. I'll give Islands and Lizard a listen this evening, thanks for the recommendation.

 

Yes saw that TSS sad news if true. Bound to affect a fair few Saints fans.
