When I was growing up there was always a camaradarie between Arsenal and Celtic. I remember scarves that were half Arsenal and half Celtic. Clubs like Spurs and Chelsea were always aligned with Rangers, so naturally I always felt more of an allegience towards Celtic. I wouldn't say I was a fan, but in football lines are drawn in the sand. You're either with or against. And as Rangers were always seen as the club aligned with our rivals, I've always been on the green side of the fence.
I went to Highbury in the 80s - vs Norwich - Charlie Nick up front, Chris Woods in goal for Norwich and bought me an Arsenal/Celtic hat while I was there - wore it skiing in Italy as a teenager and ended up arguing with a Spurs fan about it - still got a video of the 70/71 double team at home amongst my magnetic tape archive. My uncle supports Arsenal - bought a kit in the 90s etc etc. On last night, to be fair, I didn't think we were good enough. Defended well but didn't keep the ball well enough which is essential against Barca - disappointed with Forrest when he came on and especially for not taking the ball into the corner flag on the 92nd minute. We know Wanyama is good. Wilson and Ambrose have already totally clicked. We can play much better than that - the beauty of being a Scottish team in Europe is that you're always under-rated and several glamour European names have shat it when faced with the noise of Paradise. The Gooners are in for a tough one tonight, I reckon, Schalke are a solid side and the Bundesliga is a much better league than it gets credit for. I hope you get a home win but it won't be easy - Schalke beat Dortmund at the weekend, they've got some injury worries but they're a good, flexible team. Talking of good, flexible, young teams, we're right up there by the way. Watched this squad coming together over the past few years and, if we can keep most of our team together and sell the odd Ki here and there, we're gonna get even better.
Weird, i thought there was a historical link between us and Rangers. I thought we owned shares in the old rangers.
I think they owned shares in Arsenal Kyle?, but they got sold when Rangers went into admin. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...reholding-in-Arsenal-to-Alisher-Usmanov.html#
I assume you're saying that Celtic's team is the quality of a third-tier English one? What an inflated sense of self-worth you English have - your teams have embarrassed themselves in the last two nights, against the likes of Ajax and Shakhtar. We were 30 seconds off drawing at the Nou Camp. Celtic are comfortably at the standard of a top-ten premiership team.
I thought I was the only one that felt this way about us & Celtic. Kinda comforting to know that there are at least 2 feckin idiots amongst our fan base and not just me
