Seen the action on Sky this morning... No TV angle on Pudil's red, so will have to take eye-witness accounts on that. If he smacked someone, then obviously deserves to go - but anyone see why he lashed out? The penalty... One of those you probably see not given more than you do, but would suggest a home team will get them more than an away team does! If you get given it, you will say it was fair, if against you, you will say it was ball to hand and too close to do anything about it! I didn't see the 1st yellow card for Chalobah, but they showed the 2nd and he did kick the ball away. Wasn't one of those hoofs you always see, but he did just tap it away so they couldn't take a quick free kick. You do see it pretty often and no card given, but by the letter of the law, it is a 2nd. He should learn from it. As for our discpline - well, it was only 1 red card before todays game, seeming the other joke red was rescinded. Two of the reds now have been for 2 yellow cards, and for the more petulant things in the game rather than dirtiness. They are easy things to stop so Zola just needs to have a word with a few players, and make them start thinking! As for the game - to go to Cardiff and be that close to winning is a shame, but also positive signs! No doubt many of the other players will be having words with the ones sent off to tell them tey have cost them the game! Let's just hope one or two are back from injury before the weekend!
A hollow victory for mankey - lets face it we would have won this if we hadn't had two players sent off and even then it took a very dodgy penalty to get his team back into the match and a last gasp goal to win it. I only hope when he hauls himself back to Watford we can give him what he deserves - a damned good pasting.
A quote taken from the Vital Cardiff match report helps on the sending off: 'The red card incident was just feet from my seat and was instigated by Noone after Pudil had fallen on him. Nevertheless, the Watford man lashed out and caught Noone in the face - this sort of collision occurs in every Championship game but do react within a metre of the assistant referee was stupid in the extreme. Noone clearly indicated to the assistant that contact was made with his face, a claim he re-iterated several times.' http://www.cardiff.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=297490#ixzz2ACl7osLd
i couldn't book early because of someone else's work..had to wait to see if they could go..what a rip, and of course, the home fans didn't pay anywhere near the same...digusting!
Yeates has played well this season...he gets stick for his performances last season, which were crap, but he doesn't deserve it after a lot of good football in the last couple of months. Yes, he makes mistakes, but who doesn't. Until he plays like he used to, i'm happy to see him on the pitch, he works really hard, chases everything, and yes, his passing isn't always accurate, but he tries to get the ball back when he's screwed up. At least he stays on the pitch and doesn't pick up cards along the way! nobody saw it, he's apologised on Twitter...if it was a reaction to something it's blinkin' annoying. Very very harsh, and in my opinion, definitely not a penalty. There's no way he would have had time to move his hand (which according to Dan, was down) out the way. It seemed to us that he kicked the ball away as the whistle blew, not after it...but replays could show us to be wrong...it was all too depressing by then! To be honest, this was a great performance. Even with 9 men they couldn't deal, and it's such a shame that we conceded in the dying moments, we didn't deserve to lose at all. I'm proud of the remaining 9, they were excellent, though yes, Cassetti was running close to the wind, and changed position so that he didn't get caught again. Geijo seemed like a bit of a gem, good to see, and glad he got a chance to prove it, after the last couple of attempts. It was a fun trip, despite the ridiculous cost of the tickets, the 2 red cards, and the penalty. Met a couple of people i'd been chatting with on Twitter for ages, so that was fun, and Dan and i got a wave from Deeney on the M4 on the way home which made the journey a little more exciting for a few moments! Onwards and upwards Hornets, this is only one game. Let's just hope GFZ sorts out the discipline side of things soon, coz all these red cards are spoiling the game, and losing us mega points.
okay, just seen the highlights on sky. Still no sight of what happened with Pudil, Chalobah second yellow now seems reasonable..but the penalty? Bonkers!
it applies to both home and away fans, how many times do you have to be told? 'Even with 9 men they couldn't deal' dont know where you get that from, in fact your supporters cheered sarcastically when you finally got a free kick in our half as 99% of the second half was just attack after attack, relentless stuff........
i was told home fans pay less than £32. Only going by what i was told by a Cardiff person in Cardiff!
Agree that Pudil was stupid to retaliate at all, never mind how close to the assistant ref - but that report seems to suggest that the assistant ref acted upon what Noone told him had happened, not what he himself saw. Surely that can't be right?
From the horses mouth via twitter "I didnt hit him. Just push him way because he was holding my neck.... But i didnt deserve red card." Suggests that the assistant ref didn't see the whole incident, but then retaliation has always been deemed the worse offence for some reason.
does seem very harsh...but yep, retaliation is never good......feel for him tbh...we're being treated badly by officials lately...we just have to behave like angels..but when we do, we still get penalised usually...blinkin' frustrating!
When 0-1 down we'd have taken the draw. there are all sorts of ifs and buts after this game: 'but it wasn't a penalty' cry the Hornets. 'But we should have been given one in the first half' we retort. We weren't at our best. Noone was disappointing, trying too hard. Zola says you were in control at one nil up. Don't agree. Fifteen minutes gone and we were camped in your half. Didn't really look like scoring though, until the 'harsh' pen. We miss Maynard and if we spend in the JAn window, we'll be going for someone of that calibre, I hope. All will be well. All the best to you lot though.
Frustrating is hardly the word for it - FF sent off for doing something that is so commonplace in the EPL that it rarely produces a yellow card, Vydra sent off costing us the game & then red card rescinded - and then last night's debacle. I still say that 'sending off' should be scrapped as it spoils any game as a spectacle. There are better ways of dealing with those players who commit red card offences - ways that will at least ensure that fans enjoy the spectacle, which, after all, is what it is all about.
You're right...we weren't on top in the first half, but we had more control than you did. You had possession and couldn't do anything with it..when we had it, we looked as if we could. If you're talking about the incident with Bellamy, that wasn't a pen, but the ref was bad for both sides last night, just worse for us. Good luck to you too, looking forward to playing you in the playoffs
