Get Varney off. Complete dog ****e. Thing is, I know Portsmouth fans who rate him. Am I judging him to early? Not sure, some people just dont look like they can cut it playing for us and he is really fitting that bill at the moment.
Hate to say it but I completely agree. He just doesn't do it for me. I want to give him a chance because he's proven he's capable in this division, but right now he's hopeless. Get Tonge on, or better still, give Hall a go. Ah well, on the upside Huddersfield are losing 3-1 to posh
How do you recover from that? Sign of a good player if his head doesnt drop but its not working out is it? Becchio hasnt been in it at all today. Again.
Crying out for a winger with pace, someone to change the game. Might as well give Hall a go, can't be any worse than Varney.
And as soon as I say that, Gray comes on for Becchio so Hall won't be coming on. Ah well, Becchio's been average today as well
All in all though up to 7th. Crazy league but we have to take maximum points of teams like Charlton at home regardless of the day of the week. No disrespect to Charlton who probably looked better than us for most of the game.
Both sides looked absolute ****e. Varney has the potential to be the worst player to wear our shirt. I think that Warnock only stuck with him because to haul him off after our voicing our opinion onn how s****e he was would have meant no way back. EHD is the only quality we have but he cannot be expected to do it on his own. The game was a 0.5/10 we were 0.25/10. the lino breaking his flag was the highlight of the evening.
good game then? I didn't see the game (or indeed listen to it this time) but Varney is ****, I've thought that everytime I have seen him. He shouldn't be starting games, I'm assuming Colin just wanted to freshen things up given it was a midweek game by dropping a few players but he still didn't drop Becchio and if the game on Friday wasn't deserving of his place being lost in the team then I really am not sure what is
I think it's very easy to blame the team for the performance, but the same tactics were employed throughout the match without change. They failed. And the manager has to take responsibility for playing that way, and not changing it when it wasn't working (and I'm a top Warnock fan, remember!). All we did was hump high balls aimlessly up the park, and the Charlton defence (6'5" CB, btw!!) won everything in the air. Then our midfield failed to win most of the second balls. All night. Interestingly, Varney on the left won most of the balls that were humped up to him. It was all he did all night. But even that is only half of the story. He seems to have a pointy head, so every ball he won went anywhere you wouldn't want it to go.
Whitejock, I have said this many times. Even when Warnock was linked before he got the job, I do not like him not only because he's a cock but I hate his tactics. He's quite stubborn throughout a game I think I don't think leeds can play the long ball. Becchio doesn't cushion down headers for other players, he does win a fair amount of headers but he always flicks them on to random areas where no one is. He needs to learn to hold the ball up and play with his back to goal. Varney looks decent in the air but he is being played out wide so he is not always an option for the long ball.
That's back to back games against teams that were poor and it sounds like we matched then when it came to who could play the worse. Definitely 4 points dropped however unbeaten run continues.
Yea, unbeaten run continues but that just hides how poor we have been really. People go on about being unbeaten but I woulda preferred to lose 1 and win 1 rather than two draws for obvious reasons. Draws do not do much for you especially when considering home form, a promotion team needs to win games like these imo
Becchio may not have been any good today because we were lumping balls up to him & asking him to compete in the air with someone nearly a foot taller. No wonder he didn't look very happy. Poor game, poor performance, not great tactics... but still only 4 pts off auto
