    Newcastle Ace brands Sunderland ‘lucky’

Newcastle United defender Danny Simpson has come out and stated that he believed Sunderland were lucky to draw the Tyne-Wear Derby on Sunday.

The Black Cats pinched a late leveller thanks to a Demba Ba’s own goal, and the right back felt it was rough justice for his side.

It has been well known that Newcastle are yet to hit top gear this season but have showed a lot of grit and determination to grind out results.

This Sunday was another example of this resolution, especially in defence as the side seemed fairly assured holding Sunderland at bay, until they equalised with less than 10 minutes to go.

The Toon star was quick to draw upon the positives of the display and believes that Pardew’s men can use this result as a springboard to push on.

The former Manchester United star went on to tell the Newcastle Official website, “It gets to the point in a game when you do not think you are going to concede. You feel quite comfortable. Everybody seems to be doing their jobs and playing together.

For them it had to be something freaky like that. It was a fluky, lucky goal.”

The North East outfit don’t have lots of time to reflect on the result, with their next game coming up on Thursday against Club Brugge and Simpson will be looking to get another run out there.

The full back has been out with injury recently and will be looking to return to full match fitness. The defender has also shrugged off reports that he is set to leave in the January transfer window with his contract due to expire at the end of the season.

Dopey **** has got the clubs mixed up.

You weren't lucky to draw with us? That's what you're suggesting?

Not sure why, we played poorly against Everton, Norwich, Villa and Reading and yet picked up six points from those games.

We have been ****e in all 7 games so far but won 1, lost 1 and drawn 5 for our 8 points. We can only get better when we have all our squad to choose from but apparently that was your best 11 to choose from your full squad and one of the best games you have played so far (yet you didn't win).

I have cause to be optimistic. Not sure you can say the same.

May have escaped your notice but we had ten men for over an hour and still created the best chances in the game. Cabaye, Ba, Cisse, Shola, HBA have also all got goals for us this season compared to just Fletcher (and Ba) for you. When we play poorly we still create chances, Sunderland simply don't (views shared by many of your fans on this very forum).

I never said on this thread you didn't have cause to be optimistic and certainly wasn't looking for any debate over your team. Was merely pointing out that to describe our performances so far as "gritty & determined" is a good summation of where we are at so far this season.

Has Mclean (3) and Gardner not scored goals for us this season?

Against lower league opposition, but yeah they have to be fair. Although breaking down league one/two teams is a lot different to hitting the back of the net in the prem.

I have already said I thought we were very poor in the game Sunday and a little fortuitous to get back into the game as I didnt know where our goal was coming from but have been ****e all season yet with out game in hand, we could be above you. We have still to be able to pick from our fiull squad and get players playing in correct positions. Also, I dont remember Mignolet being too stretched apart form a couple of efforts and Krul likewise.

Your manager said this was his full squad pick and you had Bobby Moore playing for you yet you didn't win the game. We on the other hand played ****e and still didn't lose.

As I said, we have cause to be optimistic as we will get better. That said we need to improve a helluva lot.

Both teams need to improve, to be fair you were missing Brown, Cattermole & Bardsley, so three players. We were missing Taylor, Cisse & basically Tiote (for 70 minutes near enough), so again three players. He deserved to see red, not moaning about that. But due to his red it wasn't our strongest team, because our strongest team contains 11 men, not 10.

Do I think you'll improve? Yes.
Do I think we'll improve? Yes.

If I had to say who had more cause for optimism regarding finishing higher in the league I'd say us (I'm biased, your biased, let's not argue). IMO our front line and midfield is better, defences similar and same for the keepers.

I do think you have more optimism with regards to winning a trophy this year than us. You have a good draw in the league cup meaning you could be in the last eight, once you make the last eight you have a very real chance in any cup competition and the top teams tend to play weakened line ups in the league cup. Where as we're very unlikely to win the Europa, and normally one of the big 4/5 will win the FA cup.

Using the fact you have been ****e in every single game as a cause to be optimistic:
