    Sunderland to bid for Hooper
    05:00 PM 23 October, 2012
Sunderland will bid for Gary Hooper in the New Year.

The Black Cats have made a decent enough start to the new season, and they have only lost to champions Manchester City in their opening seven games.

However, with just six goals to their name it is clear where Martin O’Neill’s problems lie, and he hopes to remedy this by bringing in Hooper in January.

The 24-year-old has been prolific during his time at Celtic, but he would unlikely leave Parkhead if they quality for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

If, however, they exit at the group stage, then O’Neill will look to lure him to the Stadium of Light in a £7million deal when the window reopens.

Another Wickham? Same standard of football he's playing.

£7m would surely buy someone with more oomph?

    Bent anyone?

Gotta say, he was superb v Spartak in the CL.

Whether that means he's PL standard is open to debate.

    Neither for or against.

You boys can do better than him.
There's meant to be a lot of striking talent in the Dutch and Belgian leagues for example. Bargains to be had.
Vossen for one is a continental hot prospect.

we don't need another striker, we've got a pretty good one sitting on our bench who did more in half an hour when he came on on sunday than most of the rest of the team all match.

it's our midfield as needs sorting, we can't keep the ball, and when we do, we only know how to go sideways.

At 7m id rather have a look at Charlie Austin at Burnley, 14 league goals in.his last 8 games. Have a spy at his stats. There'll be prem bids in.January for sure.

I'd take him, people might say "it's only the SPL" but they said that about Jelavic and I'm sure we'd all love to see him in a r&w shirt now.

I don't think Hooper is premiership standard and certainly shouldn't be compared to Jelavic.

Wilfried Bony who plays for Vitesse Arnhem looks a player. Scored about 25 last season and has 10 goals in 9 games this season.

Not saying he's as good as Jelavic, I just meant that people shouldn't write him off purely because of the league he plays in.
