ok, as Lamaballana said, we have had enough Guly debates so I won't prolong this one. It appears from your statement that it is nothing to do with the shape of the team and just that you don't rate him, which is fair enough. It was the reference to shape that I didn't understand.
It is precisely that playing Guly when he quite clearly not up to it buggers our shape up as we have a passenger in a position who is ineffective. In this league one cog out of place and over 90 mins you get screwed.Got away with it most of last season.

ok i was originally of the view playing 5 at the back i'm now thinking none of our defenders are good enough at this level so i would be looking for a team like this. Davis clyne ward prowse guly lee lallana lambert jrod mayuka davis morgan let them play where they like close our eyes cross our fingers and pray to god. its gotta be worth a try
--------------Gazza--------------- --Clyne---Fonte---Yoshida---Fox-- -------Morgan-----Davis----------- ---Punch-------------Lallana------- -------------Mayuka--------------- -------------Lambert-------------- Won't happen though. Would love to see Mayuka get a start, try to get Lambert to take the ball down and play some through balls to him to exploit his pace on the counter. I think we are far too slow on the counter at the moment, we play very slowly out from the back allowing the opposition to slowly jog back to their defensive positions.

I didn't see enough just from highlights to know myself, but I heard from two Saints fans at the Everton game that Richardson was absolutely shocking.
-------------Gazza-------------- Clyne----Fonte---Yoshida-----Fox -----Davis-------Schneiderlin---- Puncheon------------------Lallana ----Lambert-----Rodriguez-------- That diagram is shocking but you see where I'm coming from. I wouldn't be against starting Guly tbh. He's impressed me lately and with Lambert leading the line he can drop back into the channels he's best at running.
Defensively actually it was Clyne who had a game to forget. Two of their goals came from his side and he had a bit of a torrid time in general, it was another case where Lallana's supporting play was not brilliant, and Clyne found himself getting stuck in no mans land between Mirallas and Coleman and they ran him ragged. Richardson was playing against the in-form duo of Pienaar and Baines and actually kept them very quiet, they didn't manage a shot between them. Baines delivered one cross that wasn't from a corner or free-kick, and Pienaar only managed one cross too, with neither of them finding their target. It was probably their worst game all year but of course not all of that credit deserves to go to Richardson, but plenty of it does. I think what might of given those two fans that impression is that Richardson had a very poor game going forward, I'm pretty sure from memory that he was second lowest on the team in terms of pass success, ahead of Gazzaniga, it was something around 65%. Think due to him giving the ball away a bit that might have lead your informants to decide he had a bit of a shocker.
Our midfield was a ****ing woeful against Everton. It offered the defence no protection. Schneiderlin was out of course. The defence did decent to only let in 3 considering Adkins' incredibly naive tactics in that game.
