It has come to my attention via the Right Honerable Skylarker, that 'RIP Barton's Tash' is spreading viruses through this website.

Just thought you should all be aware to look out for him, the Newcastle board, and potentialy anyone posting links that we don't know.

The virus links can be seen on 'Tash's Terrorism Video' as well as a thread relating to viruses on their board.

Anyone got any ideas of how we tackle this? Contact Mick?

    Bozz step forward!

    http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/43417-Tash-s-Terrorism-Video

This link is safe, look at the posts from other people. Just don't click any of his links!

Firstly, report it to the police, they can request the ip used by the creator of the email account to make that email account from their ISP.

Secondly, to stop spammers virus posters, require an amount of posts to be made first before you can post links and videos, say 10+ posts?

Twitter have recently taken action against this sort of thing. What you want to happen is that when someone launches a link it gets checked and the either it gets blocked or the user is at least warned it is potentially dangerous.

Can you filter urls preventing posting links to direct files like .exe ..js .vbs ect, do you have those tools?

Trouble is that wouldnt of stopped Tash would it? Police would never be interested either. I think your post thing deter most though, Tash seems to be a rare breed of idiot.

Has to involve mods as well I think. If they were to somehow check the links first (for the first say 5 vid's linked by a poster), and then they get free reign to post links. Trouble is that might deter others from joining.

Too many rules puts us in danger of becoming like 606, where you couldnt fart without someone picking up on it! Instant ban for viruses would help- put clearly in the terms and conditions.

While we're on the subject, I tried to close an ad in a live stream but the X was bogus and I ended up with a virus that was a bugger to get rid of. So let the ads close by themselves.

People who create viruses are absolute pigs. Too many people thinking they're clever. It should just be left for warfare.

A friend of a friend posted a link of facebook, it loaded Justin Beiber, and every time you clicked x it would load a different speach bubble which told you his lyrics! The video ended and re-loaded. Luckily you could end it via task manager. But it shows any idiot can create one.

I think it was a link to a Russian porn site, which are decidely dodgier. But one should always take care when crossing that road to look left, look right, look left again then run a malware scan, though I didn't get a chance because the virus I got stopped any other program running while it tried to sell me anti-virus software.

use a site checker and dont ignore the Dangerous site warning, most viruses infections, nearly all are user carelessness.

You should lock down your browser and have it prompt you for all security actions like running java scripts ect. keep up to date with updates, very important, I know it is a pain but they fix exploits and keep your AV up to date obviously. Take care when installing free codecs and drivers, and for the love of god select torrents carefully!!!

Hijackthis is a good program to find dodgy reg keys and remove them with a simple scan, must run Hijackthis as admin though and be sure you know what you are removing if you ever use it. Very simple effective program.

Install the firefox addon noscript, anything malicious it will warn you, you can still open it if you wish, but then thats the users fault if they get infected after that.

as for AV, this was a few years ago granted, I was going to re-install my OS so had a test, went to loads of crack sites etc, got loads of viruses, downloaded AVG free, it found and cleaned 50 Viruses, then I pirated AVG Pro, that found another 60, then i got Nod32 and that found another 150. so now I only use Nod32 AV and have done for years.

as for torrents, get on a private tracker, but if you have to use public, then read the comments before you download anything, if there is a virus (and not a false postitive) someone should have mentioned it.

First of all, I do not see the point in opening links which aren't related to Sports. It's also come to my attention links which are posted on boards or the chat box are adult websites. I personally believe certain desperate individuals who have no fulfiller in life, are the reason why this matter has escalated.

Ultimately, if you guys are honestly worried about being caught up in this and wish to prevent viruses occurring in your computers, then I'd suggest you do not open any links whatsoever. If he's constantly spamming the boards and offering his fellow posters links, I do not see why action shouldn't be taken against him. I do not personally know him, but from I've seen he seems to get along with most of his fellow Toon posters. Hopefully, we will avoid these sort of problems in the future.
