IF and its a massive IF, Prossy does get the start then he should have Mclean alongside him. IMO, both should be saved for a Bristol City start. The same team for tuesday night please Bruce.
Surely after just 11 games we are a long way from must win games. The bricks have still to arrive nevermind the cement.
i think he will go back to 5.3.2, drop rosenior and bring Chester back. Mcshane to keep his place. Oli, quinn and mckenna in the middle. Prozzy and Aluko up front. Simpson and Maclean as impact subs.
I would say games against other top 6 candidates are must win or at least draw whenever the time. Giving rivals the points could make all the difference at the end.
They're both first choice at the moment really aren't they? They've played the last 8 games together. Just seemed weird to me that Aluko wasn't included. Agree completely. I've never really understood why people say early season games effectively don't matter as much as ones later on. They're worth the same points.
11 games in going away to Middlesborough, yea I agree lose this and we should start the contingency plan for league one next year.
No ones saying that if we lose we can't get promoted or anything, just that this attitude of "There's always next week" when we lose will get us nowhere. We've been so kind to the top teams in the last few years, we always give them a game and still lose. If we're going to have a proper crack at promotion, we need to be ruthless and win these games.
A game against a promotion rival is essentially a 6 pointer every time, 3 points one team gets is 3 points the other team doesn't. Made up scenario, say Boro beat us tomorrow and finish 6th, 5 or even 6 points with lower goal difference above us, this game would have been a must win, had we won this game we'd have finished 6th. I don't understand this 'too early' mentality either, ok theres plenty of time to make up lost ground and others to drop points, but if you're serious about promotion you want to be taking points from every game from start to finish, which essentially makes every game a 'must win'
It's not must win because it's not do or die. If we were playing the last match of the season and we needed to win to stay up or go up, that would be "a must win". A draw tomorrow night is a good result. A defeat isn't the end of the world. There's far too long to go yet in such a tight league where everyone's beating everyone. We can get 3 points back ffs! If Boro beat us tomorrow, it doesn't mean they'll automatically walk it from then on in.
Everyone is correct. It's that old chestnut of people using a specific phrase incorrectly that winds other people up. Boro isn't a 'must win' game because as already mentioned we won't be relegated or denied promotion if we fail to win. At the same time though it is essentially a six pointer against a team that looks to be a promotion rival and it would be a big boost and advantage to win it. The only way it could be more likely considered a 'must win' game is if we were playing Spanish league rules and it went down to your seasonal record against said team in the event of a draw.
I am saying it is a must win, cos I want us to have the points so we open up a bigger gap and so we climb further up the table. I guess there is always next season for you sheep.
Every game the Iraqi national team played was a truly must win game, if you lost you had a go in the 'sarcophagus, with long nails pointing inward from every surface, including the lid, so victims could be punctured and suffocated.' A little bit more must win than Boro on a cold Tuesday night. http://www.nytimes.com/2003/05/06/international/worldspecial/06TORT.html?pagewanted=all
On their turf, I'd say who keeps Emnes Quiet is a bigger question than who keeps Prossy company up top.
Bruce has pretty much confirmed that both McShane and Proschwitz will start and I can't see us going 5-3-2/3-5-2. I know McShane has been decent in the last few games, but the idea of him against Emnes fills me with dread, I'd play Chester and Faye tonight and Chester and Mcshane against Brizzle, but it will almost certainly be Chester and McShane(assuming we go 4-4-2).
