Richards is better than Johnson for me aswel and anyone would be a better option than milner on the right. If we havn't got the quality to control a game we need to look at counter attacking with pace. I think you said earlier we can't do either, but put someone with some pace on the wings atleast if the space opens up they can run into it, Milner isn't getting away from anyone anytime soon. Personally would start with Lennon on the right and young on the left if we are going to carry on with the same formation.
I think Milner should play centrally, he's not the right type of player for an out and out wing role. Johnson could work on the wing, but he's effective when he arrives late, links round behind the winger etc. It'd be a different experience for him entirely on the wing. Richards is good, but he's not as good going forward as Johnson. He could be a monster at centre back though.
I agree that Johnson is better going forward, the problem with England is certainly not the right back role its the midfield.
Yep. I think they should play something like: ----Cleverley---- Gerrard---Carrick Keep the ball. Cleverley has pace to join the attack, and whilst he'll never be as influential as Gerrard can, he's a smart player who can link with the attack. Carrick and Gerrard are both comfortable on the ball and have a reasonable passing range - at the Euros England really struggled to get the ball out of the defence because they had to play everything either through Gerrard or straight up the pitch (often losing the ball). All Parker does is rush into things, get his hair sweaty and pass sideways to Stevie.
Difficult... If Young was on form, then Ashley Young. OXO on the other side. They're both smart wingers, reasonably two footed, can swap through-out. Pace enough to stretch the game and pin back the other full backs. Striker is also difficult. There is Rooney, but (and this sounds rich) despite his recent goals he's usually poor for England. Perhaps in a front three, in a slightly deeper role, he'd be more effective. Always have Defoe or Carroll on the bench, just in case. That'd give me a team of ----Young ------------Oxo -------------Rooney ------------Cleverley -----Gerrard--------Carrick Cole--Cahill--Jageilka--Johnson -----------Hart
