Dear Diary, The nights are drawing in here in Old Amsterdam. Not to worry though because it will soon be Hanukka and memories turn to our dear friend Uncle Savileman who used to make his annual appearance in the Chosen People Pantomime "Touch Your Toes And I'll Shamash Your Ring". Such a lovely play, we all used to join in before the Nazis occupied Holland and would spend hours baking cinnamon rolls in the shape of cigars. I remember my Cousin Ruth had an accident during rehearsals one year and she tripped over a length of timber and fell awkwardly landing astride the wood causing her great pain and distress. Uncle Savileman immediately came to her assistance and kindly removed her to his office to adminster first aid. I went to check on her but the door was locked, Cousin Ruth was in obvious distress and moaning and groaning. I could here Uncle Savileman saying "Now then, now then, you four by two, let's see if I can Fix It for you" Ruth came out of the office still crying but Uncle Savileman had done his best with her injury and had even taken the time to use a special ointment to help heal the wound. He was such a generous man, there was so much special ointment it was running down Ruth's leg. Now alas, we are all locked in our secret hiding place so will have to put on our own version of the pantomine here in the loft. Everyone is looking forward to it apart from Cousin Ruth, every time anyone mentions cigars she starts to cry. Until next time Anne
