I just took a quick look at the upcoming fixtures, and carried on reading right through to the season's end, and I'm feeling very concerned now! I'm normally quite optimistic about things. I've been consoling myself by saying the same things I've read on here, like things will turn up and we're going through our bad patch right now etc. But apart from Reading at home (who've already beaten us) Southampton and Villa, games you would expect us to win, every other game is against tough opponents who already have points on the board and continue to take them. Away from home, well I'm still not convinced we're going to get many points there. Maybe I'm feeling unnecessarily down after the latest disappointment, I don't really know anymore. I need to hear the case for our survival, not interested in mid-table fantasy any longer. Please help!
No it's true, there are no easy games in the Prem. _______________________________________________ we'll win at the Arsenal, and then go on a little run!
I hope you are right about the Arsenal game but even if you are not, it will mean 8 out of our first 9 games this season have been against top 10 teams, so the weaker teams are to come, it will come (if not good) alright
You're right GC, no easy games. Flip side is that regardless of league position, the other teams are finding us more and more of a handful too. We need to sharpen our midfield tools and make and take goals from there. It may be our only hope of points - but with the quality we have in that department, it's very much in our power to sort it.
Difficult to do but we must stay calm. Lets compare ourselves to WHU for instance who on first glance seem to be adapting extremely well to the PL Our Fixtures haven't been easy - we've played City, Chelsea, Spurs, WBA, Everton (5 of the top 6)....actually if you include WHU (6 of the top 7).....Ironically our worst performance of all those was against WHU along the first halves against City and WBA However as an example of how the table can lie at this stage - WHU (7th place / 14 point) have not played any of the teams above them and have beaten AV, Fulham, Soton & us for their 4 wins. They've also got a point off Sunderland & Norwich to make up their 14 points. The other 2 games they were comfortably beaten. Their next 11 games include City, Newcastle, Spurs, MU, Chelsea, Liverpool, WBA, Everton & Arsenal so we would have played a similar group of fixtures by the end-Dec To date, of our 5 defeats WHU and Swansea were very disappointing but City, Spurs & WBA were not huge surprises and the last 2 we shot ourselves in the foot. Point of this article - even after 8 games the table can be very misleading. Anyone fancy WHU to have got 14 points from our fixtures to date?? Have to believe we'll finish above both Soton and Reading, leaving one of Villa, Wigan, WHU, Norwich and Sunderland to finish above - who all look pretty underwhelming to me. Of course we need points soon or it all becomes a bit self-fulfilling but performances continue to improve - clearly after the run of games that involve Reading, soton, villa, stoke & sunderland we need to have made a significant move otherwise my optimistic argument falls flat on its face and then I'll be the first to scream PANIC!! Think the table at top and bottom will have a more realistic look to at by mid-Dec and expect quite a bit of movement by then.....
I don't think the table is misleading at all. We are bottom because we deserve to be bottom!! Simple. West ham have picked up the points regardless. I would much prefer to have their stats than ours at this point.
Bob - Agree 100% but nothing is decided after 8 games.....I don't have rose tinted glasses but was just trying to put the situation in perspective & a fairer reflection of the likely outcome of our season will be around Christmas. Cur was asking for some help to feel positive and I was desperately trying to find some!!
We are nearly a quarter of the way through the season and have 3 points!! Not much to be positive about there mate.
Fair play mate. We are getting to the point where a decision will have to eventually be made. How long can we go along with 'keep being patient' and we were unlucky etc etc. The buck stops with Hughes and that's the reality. Teams go down or fight relegation because they deserve to not because fans were impatient. I hope he turns it around but as to date he has not shown any sign of that.
These are my thoughts at the moment. I feel another roller coaster coming on and it's making me feel sick.
It depends if we play like the last game(hopefully win next time though!).Thats the first time this season we have played really well.Lets see
