It seems our first pre-seasons for next year has been arranged... http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/story-17088815-detail/story.html?
Just clicked the link for the Billy Russell/Neil Mann interview on the Fail website and they weren't too impressed that we aren't investing in our youth facilities! Surprised they've publically criticised
If that is one pre-season friendly sorted out, will Andy Dawson's testimonial be another? Who would anyone like for the opposition in the testimonial game? If you could only go to one out of two of these games, which would it be?
I'd say Spurs for his brother playing for them is the only team I can think of, maybe a Dutch team, Ajax?
I would have said there was a reasonable chance of it being Spurs, but I don't actually think his brother will be there by the time we get to pre-seasons.
Won't the opposition for Dawson's testimonial depend on what division we're in? (can you see Tottenham wanting to play us if we're playing them early in the season? was it Wolves that cancelled on us before because we had them in the second or third game?)
I can see it being Scunthorpe, it's the only other club he's spent considerable time at other than us and therefore one that may hold sway over the other options. Plus Scunny are only over the bridge and would probably relish playing against a higher division opposition. I think he left on good terms and was quite highly rated at Glanford Park so that'd be my guess.
Burnsy must be psychic... David Burns ‏@bbcburnsy Had a good chat with Andy Dawson, you can hear it on Tues night sport @RadioHumberside . No decision yet on opposition in testimonial.#hcafc
It's definitely going to be a home game and the plan is to get as big a club as possible to attract the best crowd. The idea of getting a club like Scunny/Tottenham who have links to Andy isn't being considered. Burnsy's got this thing about Celtic for some reason, but I think first choice would be one of the Manchester clubs, though they're both unlikely of course.
Celtic wouldn't be too bad a shout, all those supposed Scottish people will come out the woodwork. The Liverpool game seemed to work well, so maybe somebody like Manchester United (a proper side not a youth/reserve team) would be good.
Man U tend to be in Asia/Africa for the most of their pre-season, I'd guess Man City would be the same now with their increased popularity worldwide. Spurs would be good, remember playing them in 2004 pre-season for the 100 year anniversary, 2-2 I believe. Defoe got in a right mood with the rest of their team, made me dislike him for a while. Mind you, not as much as Charlie Adam having a pop at Devitt when we played them.
It's undoubtedly very hard to get hold of the very biggest clubs, which is why there's also talk of Celtic, Tottenham, etc.
