This evening I have put a bottle of champagne in the fridge ready for tomorrow evening when with any luck it will be opened at about 4.55 pm to celebrate our promotion.

Should Brighton fail to beat Huddersfield and we fail to beat Brentford then the bottle will stay unopened until next weekend.

I believe that there is an affinity between teams that play in red and white stripes so I am hoping that Brentford are not their usual aggressive selves when they play us.

As for Brighton and Huddersfield well my grandfather used to say never trust a team that plays in blue so will there be an old pal’s act going on there I ask myself?

I just do not want to see us have to take part in the play offs having seen what happened when we played Derby who were intent on kicking Gareth and Kenwynne out of the game and succeeded. I don’t think my heart could survive the tension of the play offs.

Whatever happens it has been a good season and I have enjoyed watching the Saints having gained particularly pleasure from seeing young Alex develop and of course the brilliance of my hero Morgan La Lune. The highlight was of course Adam signing a new contract.

So good luck tomorrow to the Saints.

We mathematically can't be promoted tomorrow. I'll hold off on the celebrations until it's official.

Joe, you and the other mathematicians can hold off if you like, but if we win tomorrow and Hudders lose I'm going for it big time. And that's official.

To be honest I am very nervous about tomorrow and I am not counting any chickens etc. It would be good to have the matter resolved before the final game so that we can all relax and join in the celebrations.

    I think you mean arithmetically...

However I agree with the OP - if we win and 'udders lose I'm starting the party a week early. But I don't think it'll happen - we may win but Huddersfield will at least get a point.

2 things. We would be promoted to a high degree of statistical certainty, and also, some of us always have a bottle of champagne in the fridge, in fact usually more than one. <bubbly>

Pedants will tell you that as time started at zero, the 1st year ends 31/12/00. Therefore 2000 years ended on 31/12/2000. Luckily the world disagreed and we had a party on the night of 31/12/99.
