I remember the drunk that ran out when we lost 5-0 to Villa Ian Walker would have kicked the **** out of him had the stewards not of got there
I remember that. I've seen a few keepers get quite psychical with pitch invaders over the years. Shame Kirkland was attacked from the blindside, or he might have got the first punch in.
Ignore the shocking music.
Even better, still ignore the music.
Very easy for Mr Mann to say of course ..... from his seat in the VIP section if he was there, or his sofa if he was not ... you have to be realistic here .. the pictures of that section of the Leeds fans did not look like the family stand on tour .... if it was us at Forest, Derby or Cov do you think there would be a queue of Mr Righteous Indignations wiling to walk from another section shouting "I say officer that's the cad there"??? ......... I don't.
As a young and admittedly very immature fan I was amongst a very impressive travelling support up at Oldham for an FA Cup tie during the early 1980s - we lost 3-1 and had been giving the oposition goalie some stick .. when they scored their third he turned round and indicated a letter of the alphabet with his fingers to the massed ranks behind him ... al hell broke loose and he hed to run for the dug-outs as many City fans left the terraces to get at him ... cheered on by the majority of that travelling support .... now times have changed but passions run high ... and Leeds at Sheff Wed is a fierce rivalry .. there would have been 'atmosphere' leading up to that game .... and before we all jump on the Leeds band wagon let's not forget that Wednesday hace had the highest 'hooligan risk' category given to their games at our place for many years .. and it was always a bit tasty down at Filbo when they visited ..
I won't deny that us and many other teams were that bad. But like you said, it was in the 80s when British football was in a horrendous state in terms of violence.
I personally wouldn't put myself at that risk. A guy stupid enough to run onto the pitch (presumably drunk enough) and assault someone, he's likely to do the same if you were to grab him by his collar and feed him to the dogs. It would be a very noble act, but would anyone risk it? No, I wouldn't think so.
From my experiences at away games as soon as Istanbul is sung the atmosphere changes and to be honest I generally do feel that something will kick off, Barnsley away was particularly bad. The incident was embarrassing a small group should be ashamed but I do think a lot of people are blowing it all out of proportion. Ban Leeds Fans forever Heard a Sheffield United fan today say Ban them but it won't happen cos the authorities love leeds WTF A fine for both clubs failing to control their fans sheffield a bit more for poor stewarding and then Leeds a seperate fine for the assault
I dont think the Sheffield police will want Leeds fans next season so potentially you could be banned from 2 away games, Wednesday and United if they come up A fine and smaller allocations i think we be the punishment for Leeds
We had a 'friendly' at Lincoln called off THIS pre-season due to Police intelligence ... yet there were still about 200 numpties that mad a train journey .. not to see the wondeful cultural sites I'm sure .. and the Youtube footage of Earlsdon in Coventry? .. how many years back was that?
.... think there are two things that you may be missing here ... one the monetary impact on the clubs ... and two, the poilce themselves (at least a couple I know) love the overtime and the 'potential' for some 'proper' policing work ..
But what about during a game? How often are we accused of horrendous chants or fighting stewards and the like? I'm not denying that we're goody two shoes (the odd moron singing about Clough), but there is no denying that Leeds are up there as the worst in the league. I mean, these are the same fans that chanted through our remembrance fixture's minute silence last season. I'm not surprised that Leeds have been the club involved, I would have been if it were us though.
@SkySportsMobile: Aaron Cawley jailed for four months to assault and entering the field of play during Sheff Wed v Leeds on Friday #swfc #lufc
Fans have spilled on to the pitch - or at least onto the touch-line during many games - ours too. I would not expect us to have done that at Sheff Wed .. but are you telling me that you find it inconceivable that a pissed up 21 year old Leicester fan would come onto the pitch at Forest or Cov and taunt / confront the keeper immediately following a late equalizer for us? ... we'll have to differ there buddy! LOL
When was the last time this happened? I couldn't name you an instance. I'm not saying it's inconceivable, but when has it/anything similar happened? It hasn't, whereas the evidence is there for Leeds. What was your initial reaction when you heard the story? Surprised?
Marlon King was starting on Anthony Knockaert 4000 Leicester fans kept shouting "Rapist" at him. Thats about as bad as it gets with us. We are a pretty well behaved lot. Thats why no one could understand why Norwich deemed us "high risk"
You had the 10th highest amount of banning orders in the Championship last season and the 7th highest the season before, just because you haven't seen the trouble yourself, it doesn't mean it didn't happen.
