I thought the same about Kirkland, he was just lying there. Made a stupid comment saying had Kirkland just been shot, then saw what had happened. I honestly hope and believe that it is only a few that are damaging the reputation of the vast majority
Yeah reacted exactly the same, my flatmate was standing next to me and I said something about the shot being so hard it had clearly taken out the 'keeper too. And I think you're right elland, unfortunately though it's a self perpetuating reputation, and something we need to work hard as a club to sort out.
We worked damn hard in the 80's to clean up our image. I wonder whether we are still putting in the same kind of effort to keep it that way.... In 86 or 87, I was studying for me GCSE's, as part of my course work I was doing a study into football violence and wrote to all the clubs in the old first and second division with a questionnaire for them to fill in. Not only did all the clubs fill in the questionnaire but several of them, Leeds being one sent me additional paperwork of the lengths they were going to, to keep the club squeaky clean
I know we've gone to great lengths, which is why the small minority doing their best to spoil that annoys me so much. We need to do all we can to finally eradicate the small hardcore of pond life.
Best thing Bates can do on Monday is to issue a statement of zero tolerance that anyone acting improperly, antisocially or in a threatening manner is automatically ejected or banned depending what they do....
I was there on the front line. Leeds fans had been singing jokey pro-Savile songs all day in pubs and on the tram, always with a strong dose of irony, and only sang them in the stadium when prompted by Wednesday who were singing 'town full of *****s' and 'Jimmy Savile shagged your mum', or something along those lines. They then started singing 'always look out for Turks carrying knives', which predictably provoked a charge which it was impossible not to be swept into if you were in the left hand side of the Leppings Lower. Police restrained fans from both sides, but it kicked off again when the goal was scored and missiles started to fly, predominantly from the Wednesday side. They'd been goading Leeds to attack them in the mean time, singing 'we're Sheffield Wednesday, we'll do what we want... you're Leeds United, you'll do as you're told'. Chairs and advert came down from the upper and hurt Leeds fans, disappointingly. Bottles and coins scraped a few heads on both sides, but nothing to write home about. This also promoted Dave Jones ***** chants - all we had to retaliate with really in the terraces' battle of wits. Missed the fans running on the pitch - too busy celebrating to see Kirkland get struck. No reaction from the away end either way, accepting or rejecting it. I suspect the majority of people honestly were looking elsewhere, hugging their neighbours and generally being merry. Standard big-atmosphere away game for Leeds United.
What that yob did was classed as assault and from the way he hit him can be classed as attempted murder how you can be proud of his actions and defend that sorry piece of **** is beyond me so piss off back to your own board you sorry excuse of a football fan P.S and stop licking the back windows of our buses
I've expressed my dissatisfaction at his actions, you ****ing idiot. He gave Kirkland a small shove - wrong yes, but attempted murder? Do yourself a favour and stop getting caught up in the wanton beefing. The rest of the Leeds fans, I thought we were an exemplary away following. Were you actually taught to read in that third world hole of yours, or are you just so desperate to be outraged that you impose your own meanings onto my words?
Here we go again - another Leeds fan demonstrating their pig-ignorance by playing the "ethnic" card. Resorting to derogatory generalisations in replying to an individual's post speaks volumes about the superiority complex you're well known to possess.
Doesn't matter whether this "fan" was a Leeds, Cardiff or any other club follower, it's not an inter-club rivalry thing. Morons like this guy unfortunately exist all over the country. It's a crying shame that whenever the game moves away from this sort of crass behaviour and more towards the family club principles so massively demonstrated at Cardiff, some twat comes along to bring the game into disrepute. The sooner they're eliminated from the game altogether the better. Trouble is, I doubt that will ever happen. When they do show up, hit them hard with longer custodial sentances - perhaps that's the only effective deterrent.
He is already banned from all grounds, clearly doesn't work, but Cameron will sort it out with a speech today....could be something like "Tough on crime, oh yes, and the causes of crime...yeah that's clever!"
"The rest of the Leeds fans, I thought we were an exemplary away following." What like the clowns who applauded him back into the stand after he achieved his 10 seconds of infamy and encouraged him to hide? 16 weeks? 16 years would have been more like it. Perhaps that would discourage other idiots like him. As for a 5 year ban, he has ignored and flouted the last two. Will this work when he gets out after 8 weeks? Draw your own conclusions. At least Leeds have banned him for life .
