Game? Just stating the facts, hope he starts tuesday just so this myth of Sturridge being capable and good enough of leading the line for us can be put to bed

Before you were attacking anyone who dared to criticize Nando.

Now you've changed your tune again... are you female?

    Torres is SHOCKING!!!!

He never gets into the box and takes farrr too long to shoot!!!! If we had Van P, Tottenham would have lost 8-2

Fair point but I don't really understand what's the point in constantly criticising him. But I can understand why some fans like you have given up faith in him.

I know what you mean, I don't like seeing people criticise our players either, think we should be behind them 100% but I think we've given Torres plenty of support in the past and he just seems disinterested to me that's all.

As of yet, Torres' sporadic form in front of goal has not cost us, therefore I have no reason to complain.

I do agree with you there but it's bound to at some point, no matter how good you are you always go through a rough patch during the season and we'll be relying on our striker to be putting them away at any given opportunity. You only have to look at Drogba in a Chelsea shirt to realise how crucial a clinical striker is (yes I know at times he was a tool aswell but he was there when it mattered)

Drogba wasn't prolific, and we won three premier leagues, a host of fa and league cups and a European cup, with a couple of doubles along the way.

His main attribute was creating space for Lampard.

Torres is fine, his league form is desirable with a 1 in 2 ratio, and he looks the part...the only thing that was missing on sat was a goal, but he had few chances created for him.

If we create chances, he will finish them.

That is the $50 mill dollar question. Torres looks as if he will fire up at any moment, but never quite does. Despite Ramires improving out of sight in the middle, still think Torres misses the creatitivity of a Xavi / Modric type player. Until we get one, guess we'll never know. Interesting that since his move, bugger all has been heard of Hulk !!!!

Torres had 2 very good chances at the tail end of the Spurs game and missed them both (1 even failing to get a shot away).

I'm a big fan of the guy and think his link up play with the 3 wizards behind him is brilliant but at some point he has to bury the chances he is getting with more regularity. If we had RVP instead of Torres we'd probably be favourites for the league and if he keeps missing chances it will end up costing us points.

As I say, his general play is class but I can't understand how this is the same guy that played for Liverpool and barely missed a chance in those first couple of seasons.

Really don't think sturridge is the answer though. He may take more chances but won't create as much for the others or link up as well IMO.

If we do go for someone else Jan/Summer, there are plenty of options. Levandowski (sic?) at Dortmand, Falcao spring to mind though Neymar would be my choice. The guy is top top class and with our Brazilian contingent, not unrealistic that he could be tempted.

Thing is, Torres' link up play with Mata, Hazard and Oscar is such that:

1 - It isn't worth breaking up to put in a more conventional striker (i.e. Sturridge).
2 - The whole 4 acts as both the play maker and the striker. Torres is no longer your target man, he is bordering on a play maker, so effectively, you could say because of the way Torres now plays, we are playing without a recognised striker, even though that's what Torres should be.

As far as I am concerned, Torres is playing fine. Yes he should have killed the game, but if you sacrifice Torres for Sturridge, you also sacrifice the fluidity between the 3 behind and the striker, unless you bring in Marin and play Hazard up top. I reckon Torres will bang in a couple today. <ok>

I agree it is working as a unit, but imagine how good it would be if Torres was also banging them in. To be fair, I don't think even Drogba would be scoring more as we don't play just to service a 'number 9'. However in tight games when you may only get the odd chance (last years C.L semi and final spring to mind) - you've got to hope Torres takes his chances like Drogba did so many times.

They must be rolling on the floor laughing at Anfield.....50 mil must go down as one of the best scams ever; that can be the only reason for Torres continued selection; we paid that much for him might as well play him. Agree with the comment on relying on the triumvirate - Torres needs to step up to the plate and share the load as he will certainly face stiffer competition after January.
