evening all, hope everyone had a successful day. i am not a fan at all of flat racing but today i watched Frankel race. i have to say even i found it exciting. i think the commentators helped, slow start, and then saying that his pacemaker had lost where he was (although i don't know why he has a pacemaker, poor horse then has to be last). but even with my minimal flat knowledge i could see how good frankel was. pleased i saw his last race so they say he's the best ever.. that's all, back to the jumps
Just got back home from Ascot!!! Bit of a trek from where I live. I was in two minds whether to go this morning due to travel as I am a non-driver. All I can say is I am glad I did! What a day the atmosphere, as GGW, states was electric. I have never been on a race course when it's been like that and I have been to Cheltenham. (Not on Gold Cup day though so this maybe like that.) My first visit to Ascot to and was mightily impressed. Frankel what an awesome animal. So glad he did it! Helps put racing on the map. I had the minimum bet of £2 on him and it is the first and last time I won't be collecting a winning bet ticket so I can keep it for memories. Elsewhere, Saphirre was my only other winner. Did Opinion Poll who disappointed and Society Rock. All in all a truly great day out. Glad others enjoyed and well done to everyone who had winners on here.
Nice one Ollie. He was even on the news which,as you say, helps project our minority sport into the consciousness of the uninitiated. A long time since a flat racer did that. He's the doyen of the sport at the minute with the hiatus created by the withdrawal of Denman and Kauto...sadly he's soon to exit the stage as well.
Thanks Dexter. Yeah shame about Denman and I see Paul Nicholls gave the vibe he isn't keen for Kauto to race on this week. Sad but that's me being selfish wanting to see him race again but he has nothing left to prove and wouldn't want anything to happen to him so retirement probably right but I don't train or see him everyday!
Yeah travelled alone. My mate let me down last minute but I thought I ain't missing it so went for it. Train from Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston then underground from Euston to Waterloo then a train from Waterloo to Ascot which takes 60 mins. Left Picadilly at 09:35 this morning got into Ascot 13:35! Long travel but definitely worth it after today. If you know a better way without driving please let us know for next year!
I'm the same! Be nice to see him one more time and assess his level of form...it's not dangerous and connections will look after him if he doesn't fancy it.He was written off at this very juncture last year. Always a pleasure to a see horse that never ducked a challenge still showing them all a clean pair of hoofs. He's never too old compared to old Mac Vedi..anyone remember him?
I am so impressed Ollie...humbled mate! You are a real fan and that was some trek...can't see anyone doing that solo, but as you said it was worth it. You can't put a price on that.
I don't remember Mac Vedi? Who and when was he? Cheers Dex - was definitely worth it. Special day so had to be done. Can't see him race again! Yes had a few scoops - helped the journey back before it sent me tired on it!! Well done on your bet. You are good on the football!
Mac Vidi was a great old chaser who was a low grade h'capper until the age of 14 when he started winning all these top races and eventually finished third in the Gold Cup as a 15 y-o in 1980 ish (think) One of my all time fav's..I was only about 10 when he was doing this but I loved him.
Right good night all. Sky +ed the Athletic match and going to watch it as a fan now and see what positives we can draw from it. Dark days at the best club in Europe. Hasta ahora.
